Might be able to grab cheap SF2

Recommended Posts

My work looks like closing down and making us all redundant in the near future. They are moving off shore.

Anyway, there is a street fighter 2 cabinet here, working with pcb etc etc. What do you think the chances are that I can grab it on the cheap when the time comes?

I put in a tentative email to the facilities manager here (hes a good bloke) to let him know I am interested when the time comes. I know this place bought it outright and do not have it on lease or profit arrangement.

Might be able to get one cheap when it all turns pear shaped here.

It's an ill wind that blow nobody some good eh?

Better to have a job, but NICE to get another cabinet:rolleyes

This has been on the cards for a long time now. Nobody here is under any illusions about what is going to happen mate. Plus we will get a decent redundancy payment and most people here should be able to find another job with the skills they have.

And I will add that the vast majority of the employees here hate the place. So I dont think your on the right track judging me for wanting to grab the SF2 cab in a bad situation.

We all just got called down to a meeting room. They are moving the operation over seas in March. Everyone will be redundant at that time and they are counting on natural attrition to reduce numbers in the mean time.

We all knew this was coming for a while now. Nobody here is surprised.

It's BigPond ADSL tech support. They are moving the operation to the Philippines.

Like TPG right? Set up in the Philippines with people talking in an "american accent". Microsoft are doing the same thing with XBOX360 registrations and repairs.

Pity about jobs leaving Australia. A lot Australian icons have been taken over (golden circle???), and if you stop supporting them, locals loose more jobs.

Its more to do with the expectation of year on year increases in profits, and increases in savings. Telstra want 10% reduction in operating costs every year, so they have to do things more efficiently which buys you some leeway, but the year after they hit peak efficiency they still have to save another 10%, and its not index linked. Eventually they have to lose people, automate, or find cheaper people. Its screwed!

So in 10 years at 10% cut Per year they will have no one doing everything :evil

Not quite, after year one their operating cost are 90% of the original, 10% of that is only 9% so after two years the operating cost is expected to be 81%. Year 3 expects a cut of 8.9% so they are down to 72.1%, but in a certain number of years this plan will have the whole of Telstra operating for 5 cents, but after 10 years their operating costs are expected to be 35% of the original figure, it never quite gets to zero tho.

/Smartarse mode off
