bwodie
yah been following FO3 closely... seriously though.. I am not sure how much of the half lifes you have played? Buy the orange box. You get Half Life 2 Half Life 2 ep 1 Half Life 2 ep 2 Portal Team Fortress 2 It's $40. Insane value. Its worth that for Team Fortress 2 alone.. I have notched up nearly 300 hours on it.. so so much fun, let alone getting the half lifes and portal. If you haven't played bioshock, you should really grab that as well.. Beautiful, in depth game. Crysis IMO is crap. Its nothing more than a tech demo. If you have a rediculous computer it looks great, but repetitive and shitty

Spaced
+1 for COD4, just finished it yesterday. Very awesome game just not long enough. I've got AC, people complain that it can be repetative although it's total eye candy. My mates love crysis which I'm finding pretty good. Bioshock is a great game also, very creepy. Think the next game I'll get is Stalker (an oldie). Had some mates over on Saturday night, my friend was playing Medal of Honour Airborne. Great graphics it looks a treat. What's your system specs. Also a good website to use http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

Arsenic Hipster
It's not going to push you computer to it's limit, but while you are looking through steam check out Audiosurf. It's a racing game where you have to collect the coloured blocks on the track in groups of 3 or more. Bigger groups and warmer colours (Red & Yellow) are worth more points. It's got a bunch of different vehicles to chose from. One lets you pick up blocks and powerups to place where/when you want, another allows you to nudge blocks to the side. There is even a double one where 2 vehicles each use half of an extra wide track. I guess you could play it 2 player but it's quite a challenge to do well while controlling both. The one in this video is Vegas, it generates random bonuses and reshuffles the blocks you've collected if you ride on the shoulder for a few seconds. [ame= ] [/ame] Obviously it looks better than youtube can show. Best part is there are effectively an infinite number of tracks. You select a song (MP3, CD, Ogg, itunes etc) and it takes a moment to generate the track and traffic (how many blocks) based on the music. Fast paced music results in quick downhill runs with more red & yellow blocks while slower bits go uphill with blues and purples. You can see it generating the track profile after the song is selected. In case you don't have any music of your own it comes with the Orange Box Soundtrack and a radio section where the game providers put up 7 or so songs from artist they are featuring. These get rotated every week. You can get the 4 song demo (& Orange Box soundtrack) on Steam, 3 songs if you've played Portal since you'll probably use 1 on Still Alive. Full version is US$9.99 at the moment, I know I've spent more on games that weren't as good.
Hewitson
This thread is a perfect example of why I hate PC gaming. Apart from the fact that games generally run like shit under windows even though its what theyre designed to run on, theres nothing but fucking FPS's. bwodie
This thread is a perfect example of why I hate PC gaming. Apart from the fact that games generally run like shit under windows even though its what theyre designed to run on, theres nothing but fucking FPS's. Infact pc hardware has become far cheaper to get most games to run well and look decent. Has changed alot in the last 2 years. Sure if you just want games, you will get better value for money in most consoles. Saying that, I look at a pc as more than just a medium for gaming. There is alot more you can do on a pc, and that justifies the excess cost over a console :) nothing but fps you say? Assassins Creed - 3rd person/rpg GRID - racing Audiosurf - Misc Fall out 3 - strat mass efect - rpg/3rd person sure you got bioshock cod 4 tf2/half life Damn they are some great fps's, and if you don't like fps for whatever reason the other 5 games listed above are brilliant Not to mention a range of different rts available. I can't wait for StarCraft 2, and latest news is Diablo 3 coming! I don't understand all the hate on the pc gaming platform. I enjoy both console and pc gaming

Anyone else got any non-FPS or non-RTS suggestions? I can't stand either of those genres. My suggestion: if you're a shooter fan (no, not FPS, but traditional scrolling shooter, shoot-em-up, or "shmup"), then check out Shoot The Core: http://shootthecore.moonpod.com/ Plenty of free and demo stuff there if you like that sort of thing. Hewitson
bwodie: The reason I hate PC gaming is because the games simply don't run well enough in my opinion. The graphics jerk whenever loading occurs, the framerate goes up and down like theres no tomorrow; they perform terribly compared to a well programmed game on a console where the game is written for that hardware and software and that hardware and software only. Were you trying to run crysis on a 6 yr old machine or something? I never have any trouble with frame rate spiking or graphics jerking. Only time i ever do is if my computer decides Oh, its time to run a total pc virus check in the middle of gaming. I have seen frame rate spiking and graphics jerking on pcs that had settings too high, but besides that, ive seen more spiking on consoles. Just because something is coded specifically for the console doesnt mean that it will work 100%. Ive seen in games where there are multiple entities when the amount of entities gets too great and starts to lag the console. That was admittly on the old consoles but still. Oh, and remeber, the hardware and software will commonly change within modern consoles. The gamecube had like 3 different motherboard set ups or something like that, and the ps3 and xbox360 often have firmware updates that change the software. Yes it doesnt really effect the gaming itself, but the software does change :P Fallout 3 is coming soon; I'd recommend importing a copy of that one... just the franchise is enough to make it worthwhile methinks... Doesnt matter. Until Fallout 3 has a rating within australia, you arn't allowed to import it. That was part of what was said when the no rating desicion was laid down. They said that any copies of fallout 3 caught comming through customs would be confiscated
