STTNG Borg Ship Heat Damage

Arcade King

Question

  • Administrators

I have a Borg ship plastic that looks like has been damaged from the heat off the flasher bulbs under it. I got another one on the weekend and the damage was worse.

I'm going to replace the bulbs with LED equivalents to prevent any further damage.

Is the damage worth repairing with a heat gun?

Is this what i need?

Savage has inspired me with his TZ and use of the colour changing LED, in the right place the effect looks amazing. I have a good idea where to put some on STTNG but I fear the nacelle tip section of the enterprise is AC and part of the GE. Wheres a good spot to get the DC current I need to drive them?

Did the deflector shields fail:unsure

Why not use the AC with a small bridge rectifier and resistors to convert it to required DC

I think they forgot to rotate the shield modulation ;)

I dunno? I'm just guessing at this point its ac, on the pcb that all those lights are under the enterprise theres about 3 plugs, I assumed that the nacelle bits would be part of the GE because they are on all the time. I thought it would be easier just putting another plug on the nacelle bit and drawing the DC from somewhere?

First pic Nacelle thing, second pic the part of the light pcb thing and connector that lights the nacelle thing...oh you can also see the one bit of wear on the old playfield ;)

BTW its worth reflowing the solder on all those sockets, EVERY single one had a cold solder joint.

The link you provided is for an always on light so will only flash if the power is cycled by the machine. There are flashing LED lights available that flash by them selves. Of course these are not pre assembled in a socket ....
