Kids & Wii

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm thinking of getting the family a Wii for Christmas.

But the question is what games would be good for the kids?

Both are already into the learning PC games but I couldn't see anything similar for Wii, I'm guessing the Sports thing that comes with it will be good for them, and I saw some barnyard one.

Any suggestions what Mr 3 & Miss 5 will like and be able to play?

From all accounts they won't be playing anything Wii related this xmas. Wiis are in such short supply apparently you can't just walk in to a shop and buy one, they are on back order almost everywhere and Nintendo can't make them fast enough. The ones that do arrive at the shop are already sold.

yea not all the stores had them, didn't get the cheapest price, lot of the places advertising for 388, 386...didn't have any, but I got one for 399 at Toys R Us, probably not the store gamers will frequent.

Now the hard bit, keep it in it's box for a 4 weeks

We bought a Wii 2 months ago and our kids (5 of, age ranging from 8 to 14) play Wii Sports and Mario Party 8 the most.

Our girls also like the game Boogie, but they are singstar addicts anyway. None of them have gotten into rayman at all. There is also a new mario vs sonic at the olympics game and I can see our boys thrashing it to death when they get it at christmas.

Rayman requires a fair bit of hand to eye co-ordination so you tackers might find it a bit frustrating.

Funniest thing is the one game they all play the most is the one that came with it, Wii sports.

I'd suggest Wii sports, Wii play and mario party 8 as the best games for the young.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, looking around at a few reviews that's what it sounds like. 8-12 might be a better target audience for Rayman than the 4-6 age group.

One bit even I found frustrating, there is a repeating stage (just less time each time) where you have to feed a rabbit by tracing his food (steak, bananna, slice of cake, etc.) before he eats it.

And you have to do it to progress in the game (all tasks must be sucessfully completed to go to the next stage).

A 3 and 5 yr old probably wouldnt have the control to trace a item in mid air with the Wiimote.

I quite like Ravin Rabbids, but it was over too quickly... also there's a 'bug' in one of the stages (the stage where you've got to whack the stereos and get the guys to dance before kicking them off the island)... so far its been impossible to complete because it doesnt register the hit... nevertheless I finished the game, just not at 100% completion :(

I'd say RR is still a little above the difficulty level of a 3-5 y/o, perhaps WarioWare would be a better choice, although thats only one player at a time. Mario Party is another good choice (going by the ones I had on N64).

As for Wiis being sold out, you could have fooled me with their popularity... I'm getting the shits at everyone advertising Guitar Hero for xbox/PS3 but not for Wii... I even asked Target and they said they dont stock the Wii version.

Just another Australian marketing screw up with game consoles, heck I was told by K-Mart a few years back that Nintendo had gone bust, and won't be around anymore, Hardly Normal told me about the same time that they won't stock Nintendo, as no one buys will buy them and they are on the way out. Target used to be good for Game cube but seem to have Wii stuff in a back corner, on a tiny display. Looks like they all will have egg on their faces come the Christmas rush.

You'd be surprised, my 3 yo is playing games and colouring in pictures on a PC with a mouse, doubt it would take him that long to work it out.

Well I picked up a copy of Wii Play with bundled remote for $64 (same store remote only price $64.95 wtf?) almost grabed a copy of mario party 8 (guy beat me too it by about 1 meter for the last copy they had it on sale for $59) Also picked up a copy of the brain academy or something also bundled with a remote for the same price, might me a crap game, not sure, but should be good with the family over on Christmas day and a copy of that mario olympics one. Perhaps that mama's cooking one might interest the kids too, not sure, would be nice to find it on the cheap

Of course they'd say that. They are one of the only manufacturers who won't bow to their 'you'll sell it to us for this much or we won't stock it' bullying tactics.
