  1. This pinball story and restoration begins in 1962. ….I’m 9 and had recently discovered pinball. … In Auburn, across the road from St Joseph’s hospital was a milk bar. … and in that milk bar was an old pinball machine. We knew it was old because it had wooden rails and front bar. … I think it’s the only pinball machine that gives you “Special” for losing the ball down the middle. … but it does! …. and it’s got 4 flippers. Nowadays they call them Aligator or Butterfly flippers. …. the only pinball to have this flipper arrangement. Anyway, we played it and it gave good value in free games. Plus, it’s a great game to play. … It stayed with me for all these years so in 2021 I bought this one from the USA. …. I bought this for a few reasons, … firstly the playfield was in great shape for this game. It had a perfect Shay repro backglass, and it was very ‘original’ …. it had not been messed with much. It had not had any love for a long time. The negatives: The cabinet was no longer original and what was original was atrocious. …. So here it is. I’ll begin by showing you the pics I bought it from. So begins my current restorations. I’ll keep adding to the story and resto. Hoping you find it interesting. Mark

  4. I scored a Gunbird 2 off eBay the other day and put it in the Blast City. My full clean-up of the Blast was completed recently but the monitor kept turning off after a short time. So I wasn’t bringing it inside. Someone suggested to me (due to cold and damp) to get the hair dryer onto the chassis and warm it up first. The machine was out in the garage in the cold here in Orange. Well to my surprise it worked. I had the hair dryer on low blowing into the back panel for about an hour while I played. I turned the machine and hair dryer off for five minutes to mount the pcb and then after turning the machine back on without the dryer - the monitor proceeded to shut off after a few minutes. Long story short I was buoyed enough by the warming of the inside of the cabinet working to bring it inside. After sitting for a couple of hours to “come up to temp” and any troublesome moisture evaporating I fired her up and she’s been running no prob for a few hours. The monitor needs tuning but it’s bright and doesn’t have any burn-in. The scanlines seem way more visible that I expected. Anyway great times ahead. Getting a real tate CRT cab and OG shmup PCB makes me feel like I’ve hacked life and cracked the code of arcade ownership I dreamed about as a kid. IMG_6138.MOV

  13. Hi folks, …. Firstly, I’m not sure why a lot of the photos I posted wound up upside down. …I’ll try to get that sorted. Ok. …. So a few more details on the whole deal. … I’ve been buying/collecting/restoring pinballs for over 30 years. I used to have a lot but realized that in the end too many machines puts pressure on your space and time, so these days I’ve got 2 woodies and 3 wedgeheads. I’ve never bought a machine from the USA before, and I wouldn’t have ever done this, but …. I believe there is only one other Daisy May in Australia, and it could not be bought. So, it was USA or nothing. I was lucky in that the person who I was dealing with was an honest and honorable person. He told me the truth, was straight up, and I had no problems in that regard. It was not cheap. … The machine took 9 months to get here. It spent a lot of time at the port at Shanghai. It was a stressful and frustrating time, but finally it made its way to my garage. These next pics are from day 1 at my place. …. This was May 2nd…..The last photo was taken after I had got off the maroon paint from the rails, but I wanted to show the splendor of the ‘original’ paint.

  15. Pessimeister: 1, 212 700 Got a little more from Deck 12. I can understand if there was a limit placed upon hidden item use but until told otherwise, I'll keep trying to push it. As Rob said, there's no more extra lives after 1 million. It's pure progress from there on end.

  17. Pessimeister: 790, 350 Damn, the 1 million club is growing fast. Not sure I can make it... For all those who haven't seen it, be sure to check out Rob Macauley's incredible 1.3 million world record video. Here's the link: https://www.twingalaxies.com/showthread.php/224801 I have to ask @RMacauley actually: How'd you discover that nifty exploit on Deck 9? Was it something you found back in the day playing on the arcade, or just something found by normal play on mame? When I was able to replicate that, my score increased very quickly.

  18. Gottlieb's Jumping Jack was the first pinball that I ever purchased. I still find this game addictive and more than interesting to play today, just maybe because of the pop bumper placement ? and I love many drop targets. At one stage I owned 2 x GTB King PIns (wedgehead) even with the different but very similar layout and different rules however my preference is Jumping Jack. Jumping Jack was a mild restoration completed by the Goat Shed back in 2016. The restoration was enhanced with chroming of many parts instead of painting with hammertone, PLUS a Shay Arcade Repro Backglass added later. The machine made its pinfest debut that year and also returned in 2017 being most popular to play by all. The original playfield on the game is still more than really nice shape, however with Wade Krause manufacturing the repro Pf's it was time to purchase one and in time have it to improve the overall game. After waiting for approx 6 months for the pf to land in Australia and allow time for the pf to breathe and condition before considering any extra work. I had just received a "High End" restored playfield (Close Encounters Of The Third Kind - EM) back from Hot Rodded Pins (HRP), my decision to enhanced the pf at this time instead of installing into the game was soon realised. I commissioned Tim Reid of "Hot Rodded Pins" to then clean, prepare as necessary & thoroughly check the pf and have it 100% ready to apply a clear coat. This extra work was not to go against the great work that Wade performs, nor make an EM with a real glassy pf that looks way out of place, I that I desired was just a slight enhancement to my investment. HRP was straight to work knowing the extent with the scope of works required to refinish (including clear coating) the reproduction playfield, having a great base to start with was more than ideal for HUO. I am sure that you will notice the "before" and "after" pictures that are attached and that you possibly agree that the "enhancement" is more than tasteful and suitable to this style of machine with the new pf. With several major restorations currently in place, the new playfield is hoping to be installed in 2023 by the GoatShed. NEXT: GTB - Abra Ca Dabra - HRP enhancement

  20. A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns, and finds a young couple in bed. He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair. He ties the girl to the bed and he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, and then gets up and goes into the bathroom. While he's in there, the husband tells his wife, "Listen, this guy is an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is probably very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you." His wife responds, "He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked me if we had any Vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you, too!"

  21. It's great that these two guys Benoit and Dorian, members of the Tamworth Tech Shed makerspace, are getting really interested in building more pinballs. The Tamworth Tech Shed is a not for profit makerspace (community workshop) that's run from a couple of sheds on our property as you can see in the picture we have a few 3d printers, resin and filament on the right, a cnc router in another shed, small laser cutter and a smaller laser engraver. We also have a 46" vinyl printer and 12 colour industrial embroidery sewing machine that need to be checked. There's even a lego table and wii console for the kids an two Hankins for the bigger kids. There's internet connection and wifi in this shed with a bunch of desktops. There are a few power tools in the other shed along with a wood and metal lathe, sandblasting cabinet, small hydraulic press, small table saw and a scroll saw. You can see the cab off our electric Hilux conversion (Project iLux) through the window, we're also building a plastics shredder for plastic recycling. Plenty of toys to keep everyone busy. A bit off topic but as you can see there's more than just Thomas happening.

  22. I had help from a couple of friends with the code today and it's now running a lot faster. There's still a bit to sort out with coding and hardware but we know what to do next. It plays a short attract mode, the game starts with a button press, scores on all of the switches, adds bonuses when you complete words and 60% of the playfield lights are working. The seems to be a broken wire in the neopixel string stopping the last 13 neopixels from working. We need to sort out the drain solenoid next then it's time to test the sound routine. There's still a lot to do but we made great progress today.😁

  25. Dylan was practicing his golf swing in his front yard when he swung a little too hard and sent the ball through his neighbors window. Dylan ran over and rang the doorbell three times. After no one answered for a few minutes, he opened the door to see broken glass everywhere, a lamp lying on the ground, and a huge fat Arabian man wearing a turban sitting on the couch. Dylan asked, "Who are you?" The fat man replied, "I am a genie you have freed from that lamp." Dylan questioned, "Oh man, do I get three wishes?" The genie replied, "Since you freed me by accident you only get two and I get one." Dylan thought about it and realized what he wanted, "I want to be the best golfer ever." The surprised genie said, "You sure? Most people wish for money, but okay. Now your wife gets one wish." Dylan brought over his wife who wished right away, "I want a million dollars every week of my life." The genie said, "Granted. And now for my wish, I have been cramped up in that lamp for many years so its been a while since I've been with a woman. I want one day of wild, crazy sex with your wife, Dylan." Dylan said, "No way!" The genie replied, "Not even for a million dollars a week?" Dylan turned to his wife, who said, "I guess for all that, I should. Well, not until Dylan leaves." Dylan said, "Okay, have fun, I guess," and left. Dylan's wife then proceeded to have wild sex for the rest of the day with the genie. When they were finished, the genie asked how old her husband was. She said, "Forty-five." The Genie laughed and said, "Isn't he a little old to be believing in genies?

  29. From memory I'd submitted a lower score and was told about a possible exploit by someone who shall remain nameless. He didn't know the actual method though. A bit of googling turned up a page on strategywiki which showed the locations of the hidden items and how to make them appear. Figured out how to make them reappear by trial and error and a bit of luck. The one on deck 12 is the easiest to repeat but all of them can be made to reappear except deck 6. If the extra lives didn't stop at 1 million I'd never have submitted the 1.3M to TG. Full marks to Don for reaching deck 31. I've never been past deck 15. Pretty sure the decks loop after deck 16

  37. A Cop on horse says to little girl on bike, "Did Santa get you that?" "Yes," replies the little girl. "Well tell him to put a reflector light on it next year!" and fines her $5. The little girl looks up at the cop and says, "Nice horse you've got there, did Santa bring you that?" The cop chuckles and replies, "He sure did!" "Well," says the little girl, "Next year tell Santa that the dick goes under the horse, not on top of it!"
