  1. I handed over a tidy pile of Beskar ingots to AMD today as a deposit on my Premium. This will be my first Premium model (both previous new Sterns have been Pros). Really excited for this game and can't wait for it to arrive :)

  3. While all you people were asleep, gaming, or dealing with the humdrum of chores, I met 2 x cool guys at the 1989 barcade last night. They both flew in from Melbourne to compete in the BOTA 2021 Australia ... @Pessimeister was playing Ms. Pac-man on the Pandora, as the machine upstairs had a monitor failure ... @Arcadinator found a few free credits on Dragon's Lair, and he had a great time. Every game he played, he just got better and better. By the time I left , he was up to 244,442 points ... and like BITD, it was a lot of fun to listen and watch ... Later on @Pessimeister gave the Wonder Boy machine a whirl ... And some of the other machines upstairs, that I shot earlier in the evening ... some great games in great condition ... 1989 is well worth a visit if you're in downtown Sydney ... That's a very nice Gauntlet in the corner ... We had a great dinner in Broadway, some Chinese with dumplings, then hit the arcade again. 1989 also has dedicated machines of Galaga, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Double Dragon, Bubble Bobble, Sunset Riders, Heavy Barrel and Gyruss. Right now, both Pessimeister and Arcadinator are competing in the tournament, so good luck to you guys, and have fun!

  4. i don't believe in this idea of putting your name down 6 months before it's even announced, if that's the case and with limited numbers coming in the top LE buyers will always get it and a normal buyer that buys maybe ones every now and then will miss out everytime , my idea is put all the names in a hat and drew it like a lottery, it's pretty simple really out of the 49 that are coming zak gets 7 so does joe and bruce keeps 35 both zak and joe have more them 7 top end buyers on the books so the common person in WA or Vic has no chance of getting one unless bruce has spares after he has finished with his list

  7. Also remember that just as important as the deadworld motor is the crane arm. They can be swung around outside the line of the cab when the playfield is put down and they get bent out of shape and damaged beyond repair. New crane mechs are tough to find once damaged.

  10. Day 17 of 17 ... Final Scores ... Rootin' Tootin' is a pretty special game. It sounds pretty easy, and even funny, but it takes a lot of work and skill to figure out how the hell does this game work. 8 gamers managed to score over 100K which is excellent. One very special mention I would like to make, is the great result achieved by Busty34. She has now played 25 games in 6 x MGL tournaments, and her previous highest game finish was 7th place. With the stellar 3rd placing in this game, and only 11,460 points behind the winner, it was a terrific performance by Busty34, that deserves a musical fanfare of achievement and congratulations ... Congratulations to Patrick Stanley on figuring out how to win Game 8, with a top score of 176,720 points. That score sounded just as good as the notes in the game ... LOL. Robotron, Centipede and Rampage are the last three remaining games in MGL47. The first 2 games mentioned were in the Pixels movie, and the last game mentioned was in a movie with Dwayne Johnson. So these are very well known titles, and the challenge is for you to get to know them even better.

  12. Hi all you funky gamers, I am heading into downtown Sydney tonight for the Battle Of The Arcades venue at 1989 in Newtown. I won't be competing, but I'll be meeting up with @Pessimeister and maybe @Arcadinator from the MGL, who are. They have both flown in from Melbourne, and it should be a fun night plus tomorrows game play, across all the arcade venues in Australia. I thought I'd try and let you see what it's like on the inside, with trusty cameras in hands, and I'll post them late tonight. The gospel of gaming is calling again, and if you have any photos of your arcades in the now or before, please feel free to post some piccies. (Why should I have all the fun ... LOL) From a previous visit ... and plenty more to come tonight ... And the promo ... I like the Ms. Pac-man in the line up ...

  17. I saw a remark here in there on Pinside like that too as I of course have also followed that thread for years. I guess someone's always going to have a punt with it. I had far more faith in Godzilla at that stage just quietly. I still didn't even want to pester the guys at AMD, whom I've know well for a long time now about putting me down that early based on a rumour as I thought seriously may as well have said just put me down for the next LE, which felt kind of superfluous, especially if it tuned out to be a machine I didn't want like say LZ or Munsters and I cancelled it. But obviously not an issue for you. I've got too many machines to just go with it like that, given one LE in my collection right now will have to give way for the next, which obviously would be silly of me to say dump a machine I still quite liked for one I don't even want. I very much get that feeling too just quietly re AMD's method of allocation when it comes down to it. Geez, that in itself right now could be a massive deal breaker for me. Absolutely the crappiest time for year for me to have to be paying for stuff prior to end of fin year. It's literally a must for me to sell a machine prior as it would be terrible for my cashflow to juggle paying it all upfront. At other times of the year or after July it's no issue.

  20. I follow the new Stern thread on Pinside. There are a few Pinsiders that post reliable info and have done so for many years. Mando was listed as the next game in early Jan by one of the Pinsiders. We are up for a game so put our name down for a LE. Once we have our name down for a LE, we buy it. Even if the game does not sell well or is not received well by the community, we still buy it. We have never been disappointed. I am not sure how AMD handle people that want to put their name down on a list and then pick and choose if they like it or not and want to buy it or not.

  21. I cant imagine what you have against US for arcade parts, But dude you are totally missing out... Supose you could get one of those Batrinix2 from Germany, Little spendy for just one chip however,, but nice little machine and worth every penny (Imo).

  23. Day 17 of 17 ... Final Scores ... Playing games made in Canada is pretty special. It's nova "new" in game style as well. 9 gamers managed to score over 70K which is good stuff, and 4 of these over 100K which is an extremely good effort. The world record score was 109,130 according to one of the articles I posted, so anywhere near it and higher is tremendous. Congratulations to John McAllister for winning Game 7, with a super score of 134,770. Excellent play early, paid off in the end. Three games are still in play to close out MGL47. Dual stick, trackball and standard joystick are the controls. Challenging and tricky games are good for the souls. :026:

  24. To add, which is a first as far as I know, is that I had to pay $10.5k up front and the balance before the machine is due to be delivered. This is because Stern is asking distributors to pay up front for their LE’s in order to secure their allotment.

  30. You can see the live Twitch feed from Netherworld here ... https://www.twitch.tv/netherworldarcade Seems like Spacies barcade has a small lead over Netherworld right now, and 1989 is not too far behind. The other venues have a bit of work to do ...

  31. I'd say some operator had there door destroyed, believe me, some do get absolutely destroyed like folded in half. Machine is only making $100 a week and is no longer current so make a door to keep it still earning money. Throw in some cheap coin mechs in that only require a rough hole in wood to mount and it's back out earning money in a day or two. I don't think anything was made like that. Regarding the Meteor build, I read this piece I thought might be interesting to try.... To weaken the upper flipper you wire it in series with the lower flipper hold up winding. Basically the lower flippers are powered by the full 43 volts but the top flipper only gets what's left after first going through the lower flipper's holdup winding. Certainly going to weaken it but I'm not sure how much, never heard of this before. Should just be which terminal you solder the second EOS switch supply wire to on the lower coil to convert from stock to try this method. Be interesting to see if and how good this works.

  32. An update on the Time Thief Table. Ive been doing around 2 to 4 hours most days to get it to the current state. Since the last update Ive learnt some cool things including bumper caps which rotate when struck. Also being primitives bumpers are scalable and the image wrap automatically fits the scaled bumper cover. This is how I did the little bumper which has as much punch as the bigger fellahs. Ive also scripted in the special features (BonusX increase, mystery multiball, extra ball) off the right lane spinner and incorporated this as a bonus feature wheel. I got this idea off Back to the Future. I wanted the game bonuses to differentiate from the modes. Of course the easiest bonus in the wheel is Lost in Space which gives you nothing. I’ve come to realise that if a game is too easy, it’s boring and if it’s too hard I lose interest. The Time Thief game starts either by achieving the opening skill shot or completing the left bank target. The skill shot is the quick way to start the dragon slaying mode and rack up some serious points. The dragon is slain Via the illuminated blue dragon spin disc section. The ball flies out of the spindisc after the wall drops and the Time Lord catches the ball after the next flipper shot. Of course you will get some form of abuse and flashes will be kicking in.I really like how the spinner flasher illuminates the spindisc image and Ive since noted that you can over lay different colours of the same image with flashes and turn them on and off. I stumbled across that wondering how Scotty Wickburgh did colour changes with his plastics in his pizza time game. If you don’t achieve the skill shot, the dragon slaying mode can also be achieved by completing the first three modes. The first mode is the meteor shower left lane set up which is activated by completing the left target bank. Completing this mode gives a three ball multi-ball and activates the Left ramp reverse time mode. There is a bonus for completing the 2nd mode, Reverse Time and this starts the Time Warp mode where the Jackpots await. The time warp is through the centre spiral ramp. Between the dragon lair and bumpers there is a worm hole to portal to the top of the playfield via a series of kickers.( I got this idea from the melody EM game which I really enjoyed) The left and right spinners also increase the X Bonus. I note that JP Salas scripts some of his DMD scoring to the playfield back drop. GhostBusters and Serious Sam come to mind. I still think it would be cool to have a backglass with reels In the next couple of weeks I'll start to look more at the sound and lighting design then scoring. A lot has been achieved but there is still a lot of work to do. Im no expert by any means but always happy to share what Ive learnt and looking forward to completing a few more things and getting it ready for some testing. Please excuse my poor gramma. My highest mark in English at school was 63% and this has moderately improved with spell check. :lol Cheers and thanks for your interest.

  36. People need to understand that it’s not simply putting your name on a list and expecting that the earlier the better will see you get a machine. Someone could have put their name down a year ago for a Mando LE, but if you don’t have a relationship with a distributor and hadn’t purchased a machine before, then the guy who has that relationship, has bought machines before and only put their name down a few weeks before launch is going to get one first. Fact.

  38. Gotta disagree. Many comments of why you gotta complete a mode before progressing and being linear so you don't see much of the code was a biggy. That's why modes complete on ball losses etc which I'm sure he was told to fix not by he choice. I'm willing to bet what he did on munsters would not have been his first choice.and yes it killed the game. People are fickle and sometimes don't like what they ask for. Let's see how much bitching will occur with mando and I can't see the child lanes, or shots in the back because there's too much crap on the pf. And yet people want jammed packed pfs.

  39. If they do weed out the people buying just to flip them I think that will be wonderful. wouldn’t be hard to have tracked them. You see the same people over and over again. I know once it’s theirs they can do what they like with it but I’d rather see the machines going to true enthusiasts rather than entrepreneurs and jacking the price up for everyone.

A good mate heard that it was coming when he was at EXPO in the states so I took a punt. The guys at AMD will start a list even if they have no knowledge of the title being produced. Get in now, don't piss around. Dave

  44. Feed Me Back some ideas! Thinking of the top 32 in the ranking making the Finals in Feb 22 PLUS including some wildcard "invitational" spots for locations more remote from SEQ that may not have access to tournaments run as frequently. Perhaps if not already qualified, some spots set aside for folk from FNQ, Toowoomba, Sunny Coast, Bundaberg etc. Is that pleasing to folk?
