Shooting Games & Mame

Recommended Posts

Hi

Does anyone know anything about shoot 'em up cabs (like time crisis, point blank, house of the dead, etc)?

Are these emulated in mame? How do the light guns work? Can you use any old PC Light gun (or convert a Playstation version or something)?

Thanks

Smit

you cant use a psx light gun because they run on a different frequency for TV's or the scan rate is different or something iirc

there are a couple of light guns that work with mame, i have heard the act labs light gun (expensive and ugly) works fine, not sure about the others. Might be worthwhile doing a google groups search

hacking would be hardcore. you would need to find a way to downscan then upscan and re-encode the video signal. Considering an XRGB+ cost around $250, i would say it more be more feasible just to buy the lik-sang gun and be done with it.

Regarding MAME: lightgun input is generally read from mouse input. Many of the lightguns available will simply emulate a mouse pointer, with the fire and reload buttons mapped to mouse buttons.

There are a few projects in the works to build drivers for the Guncon2 USB guns from PS2 consoles to allow them to work on PCs plugged into televisions via TV-out. These are probably the cheapest option for folks looking for lightgun games in a MAME cab.

AFAIK both emulate mouse and analogue joystick-device input, allowing simple use with standard MAME builds. I've not tried this myself, so the usual disclaimers apply. :)

This is sort of only half related, but do you guys know how to configure 'lucky n wild'? It's a game that uses 2 light guns and steering wheel and pedals, i can never seem to configure the keyboard properly.

Was one of the games i used to love as a kid, probably because it combines guns and driving. Always said i would buy that game when i got older, but looking at it now i don't think it's half the game i used to think it was. But i would like to play it again properly for old times sake.

The place I bought my cab from had a sit-in cabinet of this game. It wasnt on, but it caught my eye. I had never heard of it. I always liked Chase HQ 2: SCI, anything like that?

Never actually played Chase HQ 2: SCI, but from the look of it on klov i'd say not. Hmm how would describe it, it's a namco in car view racing game and you have 'bad guys' in other cars that shoot at you. For 1 credit you get to drive the car and get to use a pistol. For 2 credits you have a 2nd player that can use a machine gun. Kind of pointless having 2 player, we just used to put 1 credit in and let the second person use the pistol.

There are cool parts in it when you smash through a shopping centre and start dodging stuff and shoot projectiles and any other objects that get in your way. I wouldn't mind a dedicated cabinet, but i don't even have room for the machines i have atm.

The reason i am having trouble with config is that you have 2 guns, pedals and stearing that needs to be configed and mame doesn't seem to like it.

  • 6 months later...

Hi all,

I am trying to get a PS2 GunCon going on a TV.

Does anyone know where to download the latest GunCon2 Driver?

I looked on the links above, but one is dead and the other hasn't been updated since late 2005...

Is they still doing this driver? Is there another gun/ driver they now use that is better?

Any help would be appreciated...

Smit
