My Indi Pinball

Recommended Posts

This is a carry over from the old forum, thought I'd post it here as it was a restore...

"Hi All,

After finally finishing my Indi Pinball - Had it totally stripped (thanks to Bob from AMD) I repaired and 2-pac cleared the playfield, removed old stickers put new ones and and new translite. Even printed Target stickers from the web, and touched them up in Paint Shop Pro then clear contacted them.

I can finally enjoy it !!!!! "

I thing I also did which made a huge improvement was around the edging of the head box. It was the typical just cut and you could see the 'chipboad / mdf layers and looked tacky. I went to Bunnings bought some wood grain laminate edging, it was brown so spray painted it black. Ironed this on, and makes it look 100% better around the Head Box.

Dude, that looks so tidy, how much in total has it set you back if you don't mind me asking..?

Well the cost of the Pinny itself, was around $4800 then $600 for it to be stripped and reasembled. I bought The 5 sticker set for it which was $450 (Very hard to get now) wood trim - $5.00 :) Translite $90, a L7 chip $10 (mine was on L5). New Mirror balls, I think they were $2.50 each

This does not include my Labour and materials for the 2-pac clear coat on the playfield.

If anyone is thinking of 2-pac clear coat, I highly recomended it. Makes it look One Million dollars, colours come our more vibrant and a harder wearing surface.

Good news for anyone who owns Star Wars or Indiana Jones pinball machines and is looking for artwork like the 5 sticker set as Lucas Arts have been kind enough to make this license available but only for a limited time.

I might be tempted to fork out some money for some bright new stickers, my machine is pretty faded but I have seen worse.

Savage, I said it before but I'll say it again......that looks simply awesome!!!

An Indy pinny is high on my hit list for a pinball. Are they high maintenance? Someone told me that very few of them operate 100% or at least they are temperamental or something like that??

Any problems with yours Savage? Retroborg?

I have a few minor problems with my Indy, mostly with the mode start hole.

Quite often ball bounces out instead of going in, due to curved metal part gradually straightening over time and or the screw holding the part coming loose.

I intend to replace this part with these new ones designed to prevent that problem.

http://www.pinballheaven.co.uk/shop/images/parts/ij_mode_fix_lg.jpg

Also when it does actually go into this hole there is meant to be a red part that holds the ball in position so when the kicker kicks the ball out it kicks consistently in the same direction. Unfortunately my red part is broken and sometimes the ball just bounces up and back in, or if it does get kicked out, it can head in any direction from the left out lane to the middle drain. I'm told I need this part.

There are also a few gremlins in the path of life (upper left playfield) which occur occassionly but after reading a few sites yesterday I'm reasonably confident I can find what's causing that.

retro,

The guard on the hole can be a lil tricky - but if you can take it off and bend it over a little it will fix the problem - i have owned 2 indy's and both had the problem - it wil eventually get knocked upwards "straight again" but depends on usage.

As for the kick out if it is actually geting stuck it needs replacing - again a common part that has problems - i however am happy to see the ball land in diff spots on the PF "except the middle" coz constant hammering in the same area will dint or even wear the paint off the PF. My GnR is down to the wood from the middle scoop"Axel Scoop", lucky it is not the noticable:rolleyes i moded it slightly so it now lands different.

Anyway any Indy is a good Indy - as i said i bought another one last year coz was missing my original :cry

BTW The Pinball Factory are repoing Decals again - prob worth it if your machine like mine is fadded - but if it is in a line up then who really notices:D

cheers

Yeah I'm real lucky my Indy is right in between my Kiss & Playboy pinnies so you can't see the fading at all. :lol :lol :lol

Sorry for not resounding earlier, my home computer needed upgrading and now I've done it, it's back to being very stable. anywho:

pocketmoney: should organise a get together for Brisbane, I have a very cool pool with cave and water fall, Pool table, Neo Geo Cab and of course my Indy Pinball!!!

Shock_And_Awe: Mine being almost rebuilt only really has one problem: when a ball gets captured, the dam thing shoots out two balls, it doesn't register this as if I lose one ball it will go onto the next player (or next ball) while the other ball is in play.

RetroBorg: The mode start hole problem, LOL I thought that that was part of the game, that you have to hit it in a bit softer,, where do you get that part to fix the problem?

Shock_And_Awe: The 2 pac, Well for starters I'm a qualified spray painter. Any thing you can paint on cars basically you can paint on anything. After reading a few American sites with doing up play fields I decided to give it a go. It involves a stripped play field. Sanding down the play filed (with a fine cut grade sand paper) something like 1200 grit will do. I then gave it 3 coats of 2 pac clear. Let it dry, then rubbed it down with 1000 grit, did repairs at this stage and touch ups. Then applied 3 more coats. Sanded it down with 1500 grit and cut and polished it. The finish Magic, and will probably last the life of the pinball. Just make sure I use mirror glaze pinballs...

Safety notice. 2 Pac paint is harmful!, appropriate breathing apparatus is required!

Hey I can do it for you if you lvie near by... Because of the process and time (2 pac clear and hardener can be expensive) I'll probably charge around $150 for it.

But that price would be only for guys on this forum. Price is not set in stone will see...

Savage,

Have you checked out the Pinball Pro Sub-Woofers and Backbox Speaker Kits to enhance your game?

http://www.decoratorsupply.com/pinball/Products/Speaker_Products/Find_Your_Game/Indiana_Jones/indiana_jones.htm

Seen that before, must have been that site.

I might check mine again, as it's very loud, haven't taken to the loudest yet, and has a speaker that sits in the middle of the box (under the playfield) acting as a sub, so maybe this has been done, unless thats standard. I was lucky as mine also had the Lost Plastic with a board with lighting behind it too!!

I actually have my machine set to the lowest volume level.

I read a review of those speaker upgrade sets on the Twilight Zone mods page or was it the Retroblast guy?? Anyway, they reveiwed really well. The speakers on my pins are fine for volume but clarity is not so good for someone picky like me. I would love to upgrade the Dracula especially because the game sounds and speech are awesome and I read that it changes the whole experience of the game. I would be interested in buying a set of the speaker/sub upgrade but as usual shipping is the killer. Has anyone else bought these before? If it is easier to just buy your own replacement locally, what specs would you look for and where?? Car stereo speakers and sub??

Thanks,

Mark.

Savage, just a couple of questions about your pool.....

1. does the waterfall flow over the entrance to the cave and 2. Is your gamesroom inside this cave :lol

Sounds fantastic!! Just wished you lived locally. Also thanks for the 2-pac offer, but once again, if only you were local.....

1. It does

2. I wish, well actually I don't, could get messy the water mixing with the cabs

Bugger about your location, but if you can get someone to do the 2-pac it's worth it, makes the playfield come up brilliantly

Also the sound chip I got, I think I've be mislead, it looks like the same chip for where the L7, L6 etc goes, can anyone confirm that the Sound Eprom, SU2, L3 goes where I have my L7 chip? or goes else where?

I assume with the mode start reducer you just remove the old one and screw in the new one.

As far as the rest goes I have no idea I've never even removed the glass off mine yet, but I will when I get around to ordering a mode start reducer.

You may want to ask this question at this forum the guys who runs it knows everything about Indy.

Ok all done.

I had no idea where the mode start reducer even sat, turns out on top of the playfield underneith the Mini Playfield. Also found where the Sound chip goes.

See pics

All up the Mode start reducer works fantastically, really does a great job, havent had a ball jump out since.

The audio chip, dohhh I guess mine already had the same one, haven't noticed a difference.

All to do now is fix the dam Trough problem..
