The monolithic "show us your finished *mame cab" thread

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd start this thread for all the folks who already have working cabinets who just want to show them off (or who already were showing them off in the old forum, and want to do so again here). Consider it an Aussie cab-builder's roll call.

Here's my first scratch-built cab:

http://benchmark.mameworld.net/cab1/

I also have a completed scratch-built cocktail, but the site's not up and running yet.

I'm hoping to finish my JAMMA cab conversion off, as well as do another scratch-build mini-cab for my 4.5 year old daughter if I have holiday time of christmas (which is looking terribly unlikely at this stage).

Shit man, you made that from scratch!?!

I'm not too tolerant of roms and emz only because I feel it encourages bootlegging which I'm totally against, BUT, that is one awesome machine you've built there.

Kudos.

Well done elvis, too, looks great!

Cheers,

I don't think Romz and Emu's are too much of a problem. Especially if you can no longer find or get the games, I like the idea it's preserving the genre.

I did sell mine and bought Neo Geo Cab

Donkey Kong

Hi

It's not exactly MAME ..ummm well i guess it is ! I have an old Pentium 200

running in it with Donkey Kong , Donkey Kong Jr and Donkey Kong 3

I have built the whole thing from scratch aswell as painting it and gettting the artwork printed out (The marquee was printed wrong i have a new one made since then lol).. I have to thank jumpydoctor for his expertise with the monitor repair :) I really thought it was a dead unit but he got it going in an afternoon :) I hope to build some more cabinets in the new year so i will post em here when they are done....

Where did you get the corners to hold the glass? Where they already on it or can they be brought somewhere ? Sorry if this sounds like a noob question

:tomato

I cheated... I used mirror corner clips (don't know the exact name) from Mitre 10. $5 or something like that. BTW it's not glass, inner square is #2 tint and the larger table top is clear perspex. I will be getting the lightest tint possible on the inner bezel square as I think it is to dark.

I would love a set of resonably priced original corner clips.

Hi All,

I have been building my cab since the start of the year, it has been a slow & painful (and sometimes enjoyable) experience, it is nearing completion with just a few Frontend issues to complete. I am creating a website at the moment and will post a link when it is completed. Let me know how to attach a pic here and I will.

Cheers

When you click "Reply", you'll see your normal text-entry box for the reply field. Scroll down and you'll see a button that says "Manage Attachments". Click that, and add whatever you want.

Take note of the filesize and resolution limits. Attaching 6-megapixel RAW digital camera photos won't work - you'll need to resize them and save them in a reasonable format like JPG, etc.

At time of writing, this forum limits JPG files to 800x600 pixels, and 150KB in size.

Heres a link to my Web page that shows my Mame cab at the bottom of the page- http://home.kooee.com.au/brainsnap/mame2.html

I built it a few years back, you can read about it at my site if you want, it plays well, BUT in 2006 I plan to change the joysticks ( want the balltop style for more realistic feel/ memories ) and I plan a BIG PC revamp- maybe a new Front end as well - I now have 60 Gig in it to play with so storage aint an issue even with all the Daphne games.

Cheers

Here's a pacman I built from scratch. Ended up using an 18" monitor instead of the 20" so I scaled it down to 9/10ths original size. I do miss it too.. :cry

I just have to finish my Galaxians, then do my Rally X. :D

Very nice work on the Pac cab. That looks completely authentic!

I've been considering building one myself with a small-ish vertical monitor, and only 4-way 0/1-button games. But that will have to wait until after my daughter's cab, my candy/dreamcast cab, and every other bloody project I have waiting for me. :)

I dunno, although dedicated cabs look pretty at the end of the day its what inside that counts, dedicated cabs have limited uses.

Speaking of Building cabs but I just bought THIS looks interesting and has a heap of cab measurements. I would love to build a dedicated Moon Patrol.
