Hankin Empire Strikes Back No Sound

robm

Question

Am helping a guy with a Hankin ESB. Got the game working fine, however there is no sound (apparently sound used to work - he did muck around with various plugs, but i don't know that this is related, given that i have good voltage on the board and the only other plug is the speaker out.

What i have done:

Replaced all header pins and plugs on sound board

Voltage at test points 1 and 3 is 12 and 5v respectively

Speaker works when you apply 9V battery to the terminals

Have swapped 6821 and 6802 chips on sound board with known good ones

Reseated all chips in sockets on sound board

Sprayed contact cleaner on pots on sound board

Once when i twisted the main pot, i got a crackle out of the speaker, but haven't been able to replicate it since then

I have got a mate with an Orbit 1, however it is non working - have no idea if the sound board works in it, but when i get hold of that board, i will try it in ESB.

Spoke to ken (skybeaux) and he doesn't have facilities to test it - does anyone have any suggestions on what else to look for or test, or maybe next port of call is to send it to someone who has one to verify its a sound board problem, then maybe shotgun repairs from there?
