Gorgar repro backglas

Recommended Posts

Started my Gorgar restoration today. First step is the backglass. Had a 4.5mm sheet of polycarbonate cut for the backglass repro ($45). I have decided against using glass as the polycarbonate is much more durable and light weight.

Front of the glass shows it has had a hard life, but the majority of the artowrk is still there.

When I bought this machine I thought the backglass looked a bit queer. Quick check of the rear revealed why. Remember: Friends don't let friends use cans of white spraypaint on their backglasses for touchups. :cry

Backglass scanning commences with the HP4670 scanner after it is thoroughly cleaned.

Cabinet and pf pics to come.

Hey Brad- I too am interested in seeing this turn out as well.

I saw your Pinball Pool BG 1st hand and it was very nice.

The only thing you could add to your BG repro's would be to get that mirror finish into them ( and I know thats tough / impossible )

One question ( and I will admit right here I have NO idea about repro-ing BG's ) in regards to getting a mirror finish . Is there a way that you could use ( I think it is called ) Silver Leaf to replicate the silver / mirror finish :unsure

I am pretty sure that would look VERY similar but I am totally unsure as to how 'workable' it is with the methods you use to repro BG's:unsure

The closest I can get with mirroring is with the chrome layer material that is on the backglass already.

Ed Cheung has also dabbled with backglasses using a similar method by printing onto a translite.

i got one off him for my space shuttle and the overlay he did is great but the translight didn't come out the best compared to the original in my option.

Following this with great interest.

Okay guys, just an update.

Backglass is about 90% done. Most of it is now done apart from the warrior and Gorgar himself. Gorgar's bitch is finished. Depsite seroiusly considering the suggestion of naked boobies, I decided to keep her boulder holder on. Scroll work around the score displays and the border has to be fixed as well.

Accuracy is about 95% - 98%. I've used a little artistic licence to eliminate a small amount of background detail in a few areas. Some of the shape of the rocks were a best guess, working from other backglass pictures. I may add back in a little detail here and there, expecially on Gorgar's head (veins) etc. Chrome layer is next on the list.

This would have to be one of the most detailed backglasses from the era.

It should look nice when I am finished.
