Whole playfield overlay project

Recommended Posts

FINALLY got my print back yesterday. Pictured next to the blank playfield I got from Illarawarra-Steelers.

This will go on the totally blank playfield that was stripped back to bare wood after all the paint lifted. If that does not work I'll have to do a wiring swap to the playfield on the right.

Will keep you posted. If it works well, I'll include it in the next DVD.

So what is it you actually did there?

I gather you got the original scanned which you then touched up in photoshop & then got it printed?

Who did the printing, what is it printed on and what did it cost?

Oh, just one more question, what pinny is it from?

Sorry about all the questions but I'm really interested in the whole process.

why not use a printer with a printer cutter to die cut out all the holes

I assume you will apply black printed on clear insert decals?

I didn't cut out the holes so I had a "margin of error" in alignment when I put the overlay down. I did end up with it slightly off centre for some of the inseert holes, but well within acceptable limits.

Yep, will use black print on clear for the inserts.

How much should I be paying for printing and plotter cutting for the inserts? They take up about 2/3 of an A4 page. (I might post this question in a different thread as well).

Exceptional Brad - Really impressive.

Observation - I have seen from experience that if posts etc are tightened hard, mylar "twists" with the rotation (kinda hard to explain)... Anyways, when you get to the stage of tightening the posts, try doing so in a covered area - as a test.

In the "old days", I remember Dad applying mylar on the NIB Ballys (I remember it on the KISS). The playfield was stripped bare, mylar applied and then a sharp knife and circular object was used to "cut out" the area around each individual post. Tedious, but the mylar stayed in very good shape, and did not "twist"

I recently applied a decal on my space invaders horseshoe area, and I tightened the posts that sit in the decal (even after mylar was applied over the decal). It looked fine until the next day, when one post had twisted the decal slightly..

Cheers...
