Monster Bash...Classic Edition

Recommended Posts

Finally after a couple of months ploughing through our house extensions, I'm back in my favourite room of the house!

Next in line is my custom Monsterbash I've been planning for a long time. Paying hommage to the 1950s Universal monsters going with a black and white theme and lots of custom bits and pieces. Will try and update as I go.

Good to be back in the groove... 20200511_161726.thumb.jpg.64bb2437d46199c1ccc559d1f0cae0de.jpg

Hoping to get 20 hours over the weekend into this project.

Part of the customising was I asked Scott to ditch the drac assy mounts that are fugly in the middle of the playfield.

Made up some custom mounts this arvo and tested with my home brew power supply..all good.

Custom plastics are a bit sepia so going for a reprint hopefully more greyscale.

Bit held up now waiting for plastics.

Lots of custom changes. The flasher dome stack took me a few hours alone, two more to do.

4 days off now due to work cutbacks, may do some pinsound work this weekend.

Working on a few titles doing ramp decals for the metal ramps and custom translites as well.

Thanks to the state of play at the moment, I'm only working 3 days a week. Good and bad.

Hopefully the playfield meets the cab tomorrow!

Lots of tweaking lighting option 20200531_124457.thumb.jpg.58ff0db646c01d03bc88d0ab30b63d67.jpg s and mods at the moment.

Its alive....well sort of

Had my first game last night glass off and still couldnt get a good score! Big thanks to Trav for last minute board fix due to my bad eyes and pictures and coil wiring mistake. Cant believe it, blaming old age now I'm 50.

Playfield tweaks now, couple more additions like the missing knocker, tv mod, apron art etc and setting up the translite functions. Working on the pinsound mix and shaker mapping.

I reckon it will be completed in a week or two and will post a video up on youtube.

TGIF..

Jesus Kurt, what a project. I've had a quick glance at this thread before but looking at those pics closely, amazing. Scott's work as usual, just unbelievable. Taking the risk to do something like this 'out of left field' was admirable - like the Stranger Things you have going too (I played an LE of this title last week and surprisingly liked it). Anyway, unfortunately too far away to actually see this in person but I can imagine. I love the colours of the original Monster Bash but this really works. I recently saw a black & white Munsters Premium in the flesh and really liked that too. It's something that just suits the theme and era of the title, like you have done here.

The problem with your creativity, talent and skills, it makes most of us look bad. So cut it out! 😀 My creativity limit is replacing the original blue decals on a LW3 and TFTC with black ones!

A huge 'WELL DONE' on this machine and I look forward to seeing more pics and vid.

Cheers, Glenn

Thank you for the kind words Glenn!! You are welcome anytime in town for a spin at Savage Arcade.

Today amongst house stuff, I am working on tweaking the playfield stuff, pinsound and motion control outputs to get my record turning and installing a knocker which I believ MB did not have in later runs... Cards and and some custom metallic decals etcheald up at the moment ....but due in a week...

Also ditching the 6v led strip as I am not happy with the quality of it - flickers too badly in a lot of titles.

So next one is Dracula Gothic edition. Which should be a lot quicker as I have 3 of the beasts in here now.. I went to Scott with specific design criteria and changes for this playfield and he did it really well to exactly how I specified it albeit at a big expense with multiple playfields etc to ge tthe project going.. Ill start a new thread on it.

Thanks Simon

Everything is playing now bar 3 switches need adjusting/ tuning etc.

Ive managed to trao

I've added quite a few tracks to my original MB pinsound mix and also done most of the shaker programming.

Boy those pinsound shakers are incredible and really add a nice dynamic to the games. I was never really a fan of shakers prior.

Suzie loves it to due to the simple ruleset which is an added bonus.

I mucked around with lighting programmable 12v strip to illuminate the record when spinning which is alot better now.

I remember when my parents had the record store and we had a limited edition Splint Enz album that was laser etched with a geometric rainbow style pattern which I thought would be cool in there - blow me down one on gummy for $20 so that is ordered and going in asap!

Just waiting on custom metallic apron decals now and the custom cards I had professionally printed.

Ill post' up a youtube video but its hard to get the lighting and sound right with my phone dangling from the ceiling!

Finished tuning it up today. Couple of videos up on youtube..trying the link!

I had the opportunity to play this true gem yesterday..........

All the videos in the world do not show how well it plays...as good as if not better than any other MB I have played.

And the look is so well done..........

But the sound is Soooo much better that the original........( I could feel myself dancing like when Creech plays well)

A true pleasure, Thanks Kurt...

I want one to go next to Centaur with the Mad Max beside it there would be 3 of the best Black & White machines in the world...Now that's a big call....But maybe not...

Seeing is believing
