Shock_And_Awe
does anyone know, or is there anywhere at all that you can get graphics files of cabinet decals such as TZ? They would need to be high res of course. I know a guy that can do this printing for a very good price but just need some files. Is this the problem that stops everyone from doing it themselves?? Berty
I have thought about this a fair bit and what you really need is one of those old hand held scanners, but im not sure that if they make them anymore as i have wanted to scan large documents but havent been able to do it on the regular flat bed scanner. The only other option that you have is to remake the art as a vector file, but that would be no easy task.
NMD
Well, i downloaded a file from some link on the pinball newsgroup some time ago. I tried to find the post i got it from but couldnt. I do still have the file though i thought there would be no harm in grabbing it. Its got all five pieces [left and ride side cabinet and backbox, front of cab] and is in Corel format so i cant open it to have a look at the quality etc.. most printing places have corel i guess ? It also has a txtfile on how to print them and is about 4meg zipped. I will email it to you if you want it. Same goes for anyone else who wants it. Shock_And_Awe
so you reckon your file is the same as from that site Neil? BTW thanks for the file! do you reckon a file like this would have the detail required for a print job the size of cabinet decals? I suppose that's what they're intended for:unsure
NMD
From memory the guy i first got the file from was happy with how they came out on his machine. xygt
Roughly translated the sites text to: "Hello!!! I research the scans of the two big lateral plastic lefts and lateral right (there or there is the targets or tarjets), and the plastic exchange there or there is a steel marble that it is necessary to type (Number 8) Have you the possibility to carry out these scans??? thank-you Tanguy" He's still not happy with your work of art? I feel for you dude, as I know how much time you spent on this backglass. Regards, Xygt

Thanks Wotto, it's nice to be able to read the site now! My French is a bit rusty these days:lol Strange that the best site for this is a French site, you'd reckon there'd be lots of American sites with pinball artwork:unsure

Darksoul
Ummm... Why wouldn't you want to share your work with the world's fellow pinlovers...? (Even the French ones?) I am signed up to an agreement with Gottlieb LLC Development. I sent the scan off at 1.3 mb to one person prior to signing an agreement with Gottlieb LLC. I then requested they pull the pic and not use it due to contractual requirements. OK, it is only 1.3mb and the real file is about 180mb, but that is not the point. If I could share it with everyone I would as I strongly believe that to get anything out of this hobby you have to put in as well. My Superman BG is also about 180mb. I am willing AND happy to give that out to people, especially if they have something I want or need it for their own Superman. What I don't like and want to see are people making $$ off of me for something that takes a long time to do. It took about 30 hours. Scans of plastics etc I am more than willing to give to anyone for their machines. I sadly see few other people with high quality BG or PF scans willing to give them out, even where no contractual obligations exist.
Pindividual
I am signed up to an agreement with Gottlieb LLC Development. I sent the scan off at 1.3 mb to one person prior to signing an agreement with Gottlieb LLC. Aha. Now I understand. What I don't like and want to see are people making $$ off of me for something that takes a long time to do. Now maybe I don't understand. Who is making money from your hard work, other than you and Gottlieb...? (That site is giving the artwork away, isn't it...?) In any case, I'm not begrudging you from being paid for 30 hours work. Far from it. At least good quality scans exist now for a machine, which is the most important thing.
Darksoul
GEE, I posted on RGP after I finished my backglasses and had people crawling out of the woodwork wanting me to send full res images to them on a CD and stating stuff like "If they were good enough we might come to an arrangement" or "We will print some up and if they sell we will consider an agreement with you". The French site is all well and good (great for all of us), but the guy I sent it to simply spread it around even after I told him not to after I signed the agreement with Gottlieb....that was only a matter of about 48 hours - from the time I sent it to him, signed with Gottlieb and then asked that he not use it/send it to anyone else/post it on the net. He obviously kept it and used it. :x Individual pin fans using them for their own machines to keep them alive and working is great, when people/companies/printers want me to send them what I had done on the sly really stank like they wanted the images, would flog them off, charge the same pin fans I would be happy to give it to and not give me any credit just sux. They wanted to make a buck, off me, off all of us, without going to the effort themselves. It is what is really dragging this hobby down a bit lately....isn't it Wayne G? :p
Guest Wotto
Hey Darksoul, I totally understand- I am also spending MEGA hours doing artwork right now ( some is at my site already ) and I am concerned that other JERKS will take advantage of it. I too am HAPPY to do it to assist fellow restorers and collectors but some one will rip it and make $$ out of it.:x Wotto
Shock_And_Awe
just wanted to say that I took that TZ cabinet decal file to the printer that I know and he said the file was great for the size job. He said he could do all 5 decals for $250. I have to say I was expecting it to be a little cheaper because he is so cheap with other print jobs he's doing for me but all the same it's better than $450+ from Bumper. I will drop you a pm if I look like going ahead...thanks! Anyone ever applied decals without removing the playfield? I'm thinking at the moment it would require the removal of the playfield to be able to lay the cab on it's side for the side decals??
mooncresta
i to am still thinking about it with the work involved on putting these things on would rather keep it as original as possible. thinking there would be a lot of prep work on cab to get a good finish once decals are applied.
