home made pinball mods

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd share some pix of stuff I've been 3D printing etc for some of my games. Some mods are available in a similar shape or form but I can't see the point in paying $30US for a sign plus postage when I can make one that has the name in raised print etc and have fun doing so.

Anyway I hope some will find this of interest and thanks for viewing.

1. A custom spiderman shooter rod hand painted etc

2. Red spiders to go on the speakers

3. TWD Bio hazzard speaker covers

4. TWD logo that I put under my topper

5. TWD Prison Roof

6. TWD Woodbury sign

7. TZ Spiral Light cover - Arrow

8. Metallica logo for around the ramp

9. Metallica skull piston

10. GB Terror dog

I think this will be the final rev of my coffin mid for my game. I like the red cross and a finer white light trim around the edge, gold handles . What I'll change is the wire for lighter gauge and black. What I used was all I had. Otherwise it's done

other variations I've tried and they look good too was

1 white cross /white thin trim

2 white cross/white thick trim

3 red cross/red trim

4 white trim only/solid lid

5 solid lid/no trim/no led

6 dirty cross with gold plaque

You can get rid of the print lines by using automotive primer spray sandable filler.

This is a part I painted using this method. This primer is safe with pla.

I have done the primer coat in the past - it works well.

Another option is to print with ABS and then do an acetone vapour bath. I suspend the parts in a tin with a teaspoon of acetone in the bottom and then pour hot water over the tin. It works really well, but more than that, the process is really cool. You can hear the acetone vaporising at a low temperature. When you open the tin the parts are all smooth and shiny.

Did you make an enclosure when printing abs? I hear it gives off bad vapours while printing. I have a spool but yet to try it

Good question. ABS does give off some fumes - a really "plasticy" smell. To be honest, these days I pretty much stick to PLA because it is so easy to work with.

All the printers I have used have been enclosed and had heated platforms. This is pretty important for ABS, otherwise it contracts and lifts from the platform. It does help with most materials too (just using different temperatures).
