    MDF thickness for cabinet

    Hi All,

What is the best/preferred thickness of MDF for building a jukebox cabinet? 32mm or 25 mm, I'm putting it on castors so weight is not an issue

Man both those would likely Be over kill, 18mm would do it, likely get away with even 16mm

25-32mm is bloody thick. You would need to upgrade your homes foundations to support the weight

        I would recommend 18mm
More common size in commmercial so you can get a large cover sheet for around $10
        Also suits t-mould better

I built a roll top werlitzer type and the chassis is 18mm and a fair weight and rock solid. I had to sell my cnc so never finished the edges front and back and now want to get rid of it, need the room, send me a pm if you want a 90% complete project with or without the sound system

That's some nice craftsmenship right there , too good to be chopped up , but Spotify on a Bluetooth setup is a bit smaller as I have learned , done the touchscreen jukebox thing , kids n their phones don't appreciate

That my friend is way too much time and craftsmanship to chop up. How much are you wanting for it and where are you based my friend?

sorry not meaning to take over your thread but maybe my project can be someone else's less alot of work & effort and would rather save it than go to the bin. I have kids now and lost my cnc and lack time and space

there is alot of work in it but would like $1000 to $1250 for the whole cabinet, lighting, wiring would stay in it, over 100 hours in designing, all the inner mdf chassis is cleared and outer is all 3 coats of danish oil (does not include amp or speaker system) but open for offers for the lot as well.

the whole front panel is huon pine and purple heart (which is solid 18mm machined down from slabs and edge biscuit joined)
the side panels, sub panel with over 900 holes, logo panel which is a pull out hidden drawer with light when pulled out and speaker panels are all jarah (all 18mm machined down from slabs)
all the lights can be turned on or off
2 individual volume controls at the back

basically daughter is turning into a little artist and she needs a art table so need the room and cover the cost of a semi professional art table

                am in the Newcastle area

these are of early days showing the chassis (everything keys in together and glued - no butt joints and then varnish to protect it) and after it's initial danish oil, but the timber has darkened over time
