  • Cab IDE HDD be connected to a motherboard that only supports SATA?

    Hi,

Can an IDE Hard Disk drive be connected to a pc that has SATA connections? Maybe via an adaptor or similar?

    Thanks

There are small cheap adapters to allow IDE drives to be plugged into SATA ports. Around the $10 mark.

And there are also IDE to USB adaptors so it doesn't need to have SATA or IDE.

You will need a fairly new pc to boot from usb but if it has sata than its probably right to go . I dont see the point in running windows through usb though I would say your far better off with the sata/ide connector .

Even current boards have at least 1 IDE slot , if youve got a sata dvd than you can leave the ide port for the hard drive or use the sata/ide for the dvd if its standard ide.

Best overall solution is to get a sata drive and use your ide with an external case for data storage but than you lose your windows setup .
