  • Tips for de-casing a Diamond View DV173 LCD

A mate got a Diamond View DV173 (17" LCD) for the bartop cabinet I'm building him... anybody have any experience with de-casing these? There are two screws on the back but there seems to be some well hidden latches that may need a special tool to get the case off.

I'd rather not force it as he'd like to have the option of removing the LCD at a later date (which rules out spraying the front of the LCD case too).

Not the same monitor, but having just de-cased two dells, I can tell you they had a couple of small slits to put a screwdriver or the like in and twist to start the front plastic popping off, once it's started the rest just pops off easily by hand, then I had to remove 4 screws from the back that held the monitor in the back plastic.

I suspect your monitor will be similar, most likely snapped together somehow.

I've had some easy (obvious screws and the whole case comes off leaving a shielded metal chassis inside), and then I've had some downright bastard CRTs with clips you almost need a crowbar to remove.... its all dependant on the make/model unfortunately

i decased my 19" dell crt. took the obvious screws out, half of the case popped out, but the top near the bezel was a bitch... pretty much used a crowbar.... got it off making plenty of "snap" noises on the way..

          still works

            Yep, piece of piss.

I do all my decasing with a normal technical tool that kinda looks like this

seriously, remove all screws you can see and the case will generally pop appart with a flat blade screw driver.
And remember, if it does not move, FORCE IT
