Hi,

i have a maxtor 500gb external usb hard disk. Does anybody know of any free programs that allow you to put a passord on it so the password has to be entered when the hard disk is connected to the computer before you can access the drive??

What i normally do when i want to achive something like that is use... PGPDisk.

Look for the old hacked version which was freeware.

- Basically it will make a flat file (any size you want).

- This file is made on the drive.

- When you want to access the content you mount the drive with the software.

- Its encrypted with pgp.

There might be better options... :unsure ive never really looked too hard.

I find this useful also for work places that might like to snoop at your personal files.

Comboing this with linux will usually ensure your hidden mp3s are safe at work :D

Wincry is the innovative File Encryption System that uses a safer, fast, secure and easy way to protect your most important documents, files, personal productions etc. Fully integrated with Windows® shell, easy to use, practically uncrackable. Just right click the files you want to encrypt in Windows Explorer and WinCRY will create an encrypted container with unreadable contents. (Look how an encrypted file could appear if opened by who does not know the password). Then you can decrypt using the same password, retrieving the exactly same original files.
