  • Where do roms work best in ARpiCADE discussion thread

The rom compat list can be found here:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1mg...ojXRw1yf9GdWoY
anyone should be able to add to it.

For best results ideally all games would be run in whatever the newest MAME that runs them well is. Practically though, I tend to try everything in Advmame first as I feel it has the best speed/emulation quality/features/stability combo, some games will have better emulation in MAME171 so I need to break this habbit. Also there's quite a lot of roms on the list at the moment with MAME078 being recommended which I'm sure would be better off using Advmame or MAME171 (MAME078 is my least fav emulator here and I only use it when nothing else works well, maybe others like it?).

Was asked a while back to make a thread so as people can discuss where roms should be run to help improve the list. Now that there's a newer version of MAME being used it's possible the recommendations that are already there are not the best possible. So if you find something on there you feel is not ideal you now have somewhere to point it out.

Here is a reduced list (over 2000 games without most clones, mahjong and adult), semi auto generated based on my big testing build. Others won't be able to edit this file but I thought it could be useful as it (currently) contains a lot more info than the big list:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZO...Z8iysmCSS8HGUc

most of it should be running 100%, many games should probably be moved to mame17x for most accurate emulation possible, I may try and do some automated testing using mame172 to see what runs 100% at some point.

some games in this list will be in the emulator that would run the roms i have rather than the best possible.

    EDIT:
the list above is gone, this is the current version:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WQ...-mvZQXwhnoQy5c
down to 1557 games but all games in this list have been tested.

It appears there is support for Hardware accelerated SDL2 on Raspberry Pi
If this is the case and it performs better than the rest, Then it may be time to move to the latest build and simplify your entire ARpiCADE software stack to only one version (Of Mame).

I have not looked at your ARpiCADE software stack but I'm sure it's not simple supporting all the various versions listed in your spreadsheet.

here's a more up to date list from my testing build, has about 1600 games on it - probably a few that don't appear on the other lists.

That would be great but for now it's still a mix of MAME0.172, AdvMAME3.0, MAME2003 (Retroarch) and FBA_next (retroarch) to get the best possible performance/emulation quality/game support balance out of the Pi3 (see file above). It would be nice if a one stop solution existed, maybe Pi4 next year will finally be powerful enough to just use current (ish) MAME.

As your building your own interface PCB, Have you considered https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/compute-module-3/
You should be able to clone the required parts from the open source circuit of the IO Proto board https://www.raspberrypi.org/products...e-io-board-v3/

Lots more IO lines - So you could possibly do input and https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/gert-vga-adapter/

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but, some games on this list don't work for me. (i.e : Mega play games such Sonic, street of rage, knight of valor 1 & 2, dondonpachi II) I'm sure I'm working with the right romset, same rom name, for each emulator as indicated on the list. On the game menu I hit the start button, then screen went black 1 sec then back to the game menu.

my guess is you haven't got the required bios files in the rom folder. check pgm.zip and megaplay.zip

You're right! I don't have the files you mentioned. I thought Neogeo was the only system that need this kind of file to make games work. Thanks!

Here's my current recommendations for where to run what:
                      https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WQ...-mvZQXwhnoQy5c

1557 games in this list. Stuff that didn't run well for me didn't make the cut.
