  • linearity issues on new chassis

    Hi Joey.

I got the wie-ya chassis going. It's brand spanking new but it's got vertical linearity issues.

The bottom third/half of the screen looks pretty good but then the raster gets wider and wider between each pass. A picture tell a thousand words.

I'm hoping you could make some suggestions where to look.

    Vertical deflection transistors?

Is this something you see in the event of a deflection yoke miss match?

    Thanks. Ro

It's nothing to do with transistors - it will be a miss match between the yoke and the deflection circuitry. By that I mean the intrinsic design of the circuit, not specific parts.

Is this a chassis you have married to a generic tube?

Thanks Hopepin. I was hoping it wasn't that.

Could it be because.....it's a heap of JUNK!

Nothing to do with "junk" - just a miss match.

Wei Ya is a well respected Taiwanese company.

Actually we have just purchased a heap of their coin mechs to include in our pinballs.

Maybe you need to look for a different tube?

Remember I did say there was a lot more involved than just having the correct neck board socket , As Mike has kindly pointed out you have a total mismatch which is what I told you from the start.

Starting to get somewhere....linearity issue solved.
I assumed the switch on the chassis was for frequency. Only after I examined the circuit from the underside did I realise it dropped in some resistors for a larger screen no doubt. Lol.

Not the best picture in the world but I can play games now.

Took a picture just now while I was adjusting the monitor.

Sure Joey, a bit of work involved, but I knew what I was getting in for when I bought it. It was never going to be straight forward, but my options, (everyones options) are getting incredibly narrow if you want to stay with tubes. I can appreciate you getting tired of this. I certainly would be!

                All good mate

Tubes suck - until they don't, then it's all over LOL
