Does anyone know the function of the coil at the back of the original coin mech? Is it to detect and reject metallic objects that aren't coins, like washers and such?

It is so you cannot put a coin through if there is no power.

Heya - I realise this is dredging up rather an old thread, but what's the best way of extracting the monitor PCB?

Of course I know to discharge the CRT tube, but did you leave the CRT in place, and take the board out through the side with the game board removed? Or did you remove the tube to extract it?

Just asking I know this is an old thread but why not install a temporary pot say 30k to start with & see what the best improvement value you get.
