MGL 22 – Game 6 ~ Rainbow Islands

ROM: rainbow (new version)

 

Game Story:

Rescue the Rainbow Islands. You have the power to create rainbows to jump on and hit enemies. There are lots of special items: speed-up, power-up, kill everything, invulnerability. Also, there are lots of secrets and dozens of items that can only be seen if things are done in a certain order.

 

Score Submissions:

Please make a new post for each score with your score as the first line or title of your post, along with a screen shot showing your score.

This game finishes Sunday 28 September 2014, 7pm Sydney Time Australia.

 

Please make sure your settings are as above. No continues are allowed when submitting a score and must be played from the beginning of the game. No cheats allowed!

Scratch that thought I'd have a go now.

No idea what I'm doing (similar to bubble bobble) but managed to beat the first boss for a sweet 100k bonus. Also managed a couple of 1ups along the way. Now to figure out HOW :lol

Chucking rainbows everywhere seemed to work OK

I'M WINNING!!! :P

Another blast from my past. Haven't played this in years and I think the version Timezone had back in the early 90's was the Extra Version with different enemies.

 

Just checked and I have a MAME score for this version on TG from 7 years ago. Now to remember what I did back then

I think to beat the current AA record you would need to reach level 18.

Rainbow Islands Extra had a great conversion for the Japanese Megadrive. The game started with a black background (like level 3 on the old /new version) will think the level 1 sprites were from Darius on the Extra version?

No idea, but Darius is superb: in particular G-Darius with Queen Fossil, Embryon and those other insane boss 'fish' plus music from Zuntata ... magic game.

This could be the first time I'll beat a current AA record (although I'm sure many others will beat it too)

I've finished this game many times on the Amiga with continues as a kid, but a 1 credit run is another story. Will be good to have a reason to try hard on this one [emoji304][emoji304][emoji304][emoji304][emoji304]

Haha, I don't plan to unless someone smashes it out of the park. I hadn't given up on circus charlie but Shinobi is giving me a hard time making a dent on the scoreboard. I'm working on that at the moment.

 

You won't see much resistance from me. Although this one does tickle my interests a lot more than bubble bobble did. I also imagine there are secrets in this game as there are BB, so I should probably start playing instead of typing! :)
