6 games to go and Moon Patrol and Astro Invader, Games 4 and 5, should keep you all in outer space and very busy ... http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l500/sno-bee/Pacman_Machine_zpsb3b61f58.gif

After the first 4 games have been completed, the overall scoreboard has many gamers with very close scores ... how close?

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l500/sno-bee/SB2_zpsmib9xwpc.png

There a 4 ties on the board ...

Can you believe it, two gamers from France are tied for 15th place with 336 points each ... fok999 and Sawys ... though Sawys leads the head to head count 3 to 1.

John73 and yet another gamer from France in Vikleroy are tied for 12th place with 340 points each, yet John73 leads the head to head count 3 to 1 as well.

DaLar and magrinder are tied for 3rd place with both gamers on 383 points. DaLar leads the head to head count, and you guessed it right, 3 to 1.

bigredbird and thejudge are tied for 8th place with 350 points each. However this time the head to head count is 2 wins each.

A single digit separates the Top 23 in each position, except for 5th and 6th place ... so 5 games to go and plenty of time for you to hit your best score in each game ... http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l500/sno-bee/Pacman_Machine_zpsb3b61f58.gif

I can't believe I missed the deadline. I thought I had submitted a score for Moon Patrol. For what it's worth my score was 22,800.

Sent from my LG-H900 using Aussie Arcade mobile app

I double checked every post in the Moon Patrol thread and unfortunately I could not find any score posted by you ... to be fair to everyone, I am sorry I can't add your score to the scoreboard for Moon Patrol ... there are 17 days to post a score which should be plenty of time for everyone.

One good habit I can suggest for everyone, is that when a game is drawn, have a few games and post your score within 2 days of the game opening. Then keep playing and post your best scores as you go ... :)

After 5 games have been completed, it looks extremely close ... and it may end up this way all the way to Game 9 ...

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l500/sno-bee/SB3_zpskvhyclzj.png

Also Sawys and xelnia are tied for 12th place ... Rat and thejudge are tied for 9th place ... Blackflag82 and DaLar are tied for 4th place ... and Mameshane and Barra are tied for 1st place.

4 games to go ... and you are all going to love Game 8 which will be released next week ... and then the really tough one the week after ... Game 9 ... :stirthepot:

Every point counts!

Gees if pooyan is the good one, hate to think what you've got in store. It's gotta be mappy-bad :D

Mappy is a good game ... just ask RMacauley ... his post from MGL 25 ...

After about a dozen sub 60K attempts it all clicked into place again. This used to be one of my go to games to stay awake at my last arcade job

Game 9 is a mystery ... you will find out next Friday ... :)

My picks: Either Radar Scope or Crush Roller. :078:

Was going to say The New Zealand Story but Kangaroo is a much crappier game. NZ wins again :cry

2 games to go in 14 days ... it is the final run of gaming with plenty on the line ... http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l500/sno-bee/Pacman_Machine_zpsb3b61f58.gif

Interesting scoreboard. The top 4 are all pretty tight, and to be top 5, you need to have scored 90+ points on everyone of the 8 games.

Also interesting is that you can nearly draw a straight line going from left to upwards right as the competition goes on for the number of players playing each game. Do people start out and then lose interest? Or do they think they are no chance of winning and just give up?

Basically, from what I see, it means to win an MGL, you need to be a strong player in every game, but moreso, you need to be a really strong player in the first couple of games when enthusiam is at it's highest and this possibly means a little but of luck in which games are drawn first.

In a field of this size, I'm pretty much guranteed a top 10 finish at this stage which I'm more than happy about. Didn't get one of my nominated games in this one (not that I was great any any of my nominations), so it makes it all the better for me. Just luck of the draw that some of the games that came up are ones I like and have played a fair bit of.

This has been probably one of my favorite MGL's to date.

Interesting scoreboard. The top 4 are all pretty tight, and to be top 5, you need to have scored 90+ points on everyone of the 8 games.

I looked back at the MGL winners since the 100 point incremental system was introduced.

DaLar won MGL30 with scores of 93, 98, 98, 96, 91, 91, 91, 99, 99 and 98 ... or 8th, 3rd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, 10th, 10th, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd. He did not win any games, started OK and finished very strongly. He won by 3 points.

CWK won MGL29 with scores of 100, 100, 89, 97, 93, 98, 100, 97 and 91 ... or 1st, 1st, 12th, 4th, 8th, 3rd, 1st, 4th and 10th. Surprisingly he won by 28 points.

CWK won MGL28 with scores of 75, 96, 98, 96, 92, 100, 99, 100 and 99 ... or 26th, 5th, 3rd, 5th, 9th, 1st, 2nd, 1st and 2nd. He started with a very low score in Game 1, finished in the Top 10 in the rest and finished very strongly in the last 4 games. He won on a count back against magrinder with both on 855 points, the closest finish in MGL history, with CWK winning 5 games to 4 in the head to head contest ... and CWK achieved that by winning the head to head count for the last 4 consecutive games to take it!

So looking at the above results, the winner consistently finishes in the Top 10 for each game (91 points or more), with only 2 of the 28 scores outside the Top 10.

Basically, from what I see, it means to win an MGL, you need to be a strong player in every game.

I would say that many of the winners are not strong players of that game before the game starts, but after 17 days they put in the time and effort to finish as a strong player. Radical Radial comes to mind in MGL31, as does Hammerin Harry. There will be exceptions of course where some winners have played some of the games before and they are good at certain games.

but moreso, you need to be a really strong player in the first couple of games when enthusiasm is at it's highest and this possibly means a little but of luck in which games are drawn first.

What I have found from my own experience and from what I have seen in the MGL over the years ... your scores are about your attitude, willingness to learn, determination, any previous experience, luck and your time available to do well in any game. CWK came in at 26th place in Game 1 of MGL28, and I thought his chances to win the title was zero, and yet he won MGL28, incredible. Gamers can play whatever they want, I am just saying if you want the full experience and see what amazing things you can accomplish, play them all, you can do it! ... :)

This has been probably one of my favorite MGL's to date.

The gamers at AA make this tournament great and what it is today ... they nominate the games, they play hard at the games, they are from different countries all over the world, and they post some great scores and great banter ... it's a tournament for all different levels of gamers and characters ... :045:

I started a new job during this MGL so haven't been able to play as much on the later games.

While I do like the competition, MGL for me is more about discovering some gems and reinvigorating older games I might otherwise not have gone back to.

Also the spirit of the group is great and makes it easy to participate.

My kids asked how I knew if other players weren't cheating and I said - I don't know but if you win knowing you cheated, it's not much of a win.

After 66 days of classic arcade gaming and competition, MGL31 has now come to a close.

The final standings are below:

http://i.imgur.com/2jLz8lU.png

CONGRATULATIONS to the Top 20 in MGL31 … where we had 37 competitors battle it out over 9 games … of which 2 games were the first time ever played in the MGL.

These were Hammerin Harry and Radical Radial, both very unique kinds of games.

Congratulations to Barra for winning MGL31 … it was a very close finish with only 3 points in it … he wins it with placings 2nd, 6th, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 5th and 5th. Barra won 4 games in MGL30 and came in 2nd. Barra wins 1 game in MGL31 and plays very strongly in all 9 … to win the title.

magrinder plays excellent for 2nd place and it was very close for the title and 2nd place. In his last 6 games he finishes 1st, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 3rd, just pipping out Blackflag82 for 2nd place overall who also has 876 points. The head to head count was 5 to 4 in favor of the new world no.3 in MAME Moon Patrol at TG.

Blackflag82 played in his first MGL winning 3 games and finished superbly close to the title and 2nd place. As every point and head to head battle counts, he takes a brilliant 3rd place and breaks the WR on MAME Turtles at TG.

Mameshane hits the arcade, wins Game 1 and Game 2 with PBs and was on fire. He plays very strongly in all games and is rewarded with a well earned and tremendously played 4th place.

DaLar hit the high score on Hammerin Harry and played great over all games for 5th place. Excellent gaming from the MGL30 champion.

RMacauley consistently played strong and after the first 2 games moved steadily up the scoreboard to finish in 6th place ... and that’s a Top 6 finish in his last 18 consecutive MGLs … the legend continues!

John73 scores his best result since MGL20 to finish in 7th place. He posted some great scores in Pooyan and Turtles.

Vikleroy makes a huge improvement in his game play during this MGL to move up from 18th place in MGL30, to 8th place and a Top 10 finish in MGL31. His very late improved score on Turtles beat the tiebreaker with Sawys. No.1 in France. Well done!

thejudge playing in his 4th MGL, really improves his gaming as well, with these tough games in play, he moves up from 16th place in MGL30 to a very fine 9th place.

Sawys scores steady as always and hits a very nice 10th place in his 4th MGL to complete the Top 10.

The country Top 5 finish was New Zealand 1st, USA 2nd, USA 3rd, Australia 4th and Denmark 5th.

With 9 games contested there were 5 different game winners …

Blackflag82 (3), Mameshane (2), magrinder (2), Barra (1) and DaLar (1).

Congratulations to the game winners for hitting the high score on their game(s) …

Well there you go, the first MGL completed for season 2017. Mameshane plays the Donkey Kong of his life and kill screens with 901K. kane scores 110K in 17 days of Pac-man, then afterward incredibly scores 1.391 million because he caught Pac-man fever (a nice fever to have obviously), however Mameshane takes out Game 2 with an awesome PB of 820K at Netherworld. Moon Patrol turned out as always to be a great game of timing and finesse. Everyone seemed to love those ants and the spider in Anteater, a very challenging game where night time creeps up on you very fast. Extra love was shown for Pooyan and the little pigs … and John73 posted some great tips on Turtles which turned out to be a very strategic game of roach killing and bomb collecting. The competition was close and tough going, as you would expect from CAG gaming, designed to take your money in 2 minutes BITD. Aren’t you glad it’s now free. I hope you all enjoyed the tournament and the competition, as there is plenty more MGL to come in 2017 … for all levels of gamers ...

As always, thanks OOO for a well run tournament. Your gaming spirit and enthusiasm is as relentless as it is contagious. It's been another MGL filled with great games, banter, tips and fun.

Congrats Barra!

My apologies for Hammerin' Harry everyone haha. ;)

Could have been worse - nominate with others and get Crush Roller in the MGL - then you'll feel the hate :D

Another fantastic MGL - cheers to @OOO for doing a superb job that takes a lot more effort than most understand.

Contrats to @Barra on another MGL win. Keep at it, take out the prize money for the year and you'll be able to fly back to BrisVegas and play some more games at Netherworld and have a drink or 20 with us.

Special mention to @Mameshane who was right in this until the last couple of games, pushed a couple of guys really hard. Great result.

More than happy with my finish, one of my best efforts and in probably the biggest field sizes of any MGL to date.

Another fantastic MGL which was very hotly contested right through to the end! Congrats guys on some awesome scores and big big big PBs along the way. Hope everyone had fun :)

I really enjoyed the list this time around, we had some awesome games (and hammerin' harry, max please <_<)

I'd played most of them before (astro invaders, radical radial and hammerin harry were the exceptions) but by far my favorite of the contest was radical radial. Great fun game which I hope to come back to at some point.

Astro Invaders was fun too although didn't put as much time into that as I should have.

The one thing I learned out of everything was to NOT bag on games because they are very likely to appear later on in the contest!! (pooyan, turtles LOL) Also I better actually make some nominations next time, need to take away every chance Max has of getting his nominations come out.... :lol

Thanks guys!

:)
