  • CHD Files

I was a bit confused about CHD files and what they were so I did a google search and found....

A CHD file is a compressed image of the hard drive used in an arcade cabinet. Hard drives are used in arcade games because of the huge storage available on them (gigabytes!). Luckily for us the lovely Mame developers have found a way to support a compressed version of these hard drives although some can still be quite large.

At the moment there are now several games that use hard drives with sizes from 50MB up to over 2GB so make sure you have plenty of space left.

    Ok

So are these games that are larger then the normal Roms or what???

I've got a complete set of ROMS....so is it worth grabing these as well???

Yep, I agree with Dave. Most CHD's are unplayable because you need a Core Quad/whatever, or a AMD Athlon 128. (Yes, don't exist yet).

Some are however playable, Area 51 for example is playable.

I have some but not all, I do however have current romsets. That's important to me.

Yes very high powered games. Take a look in your Mame for a game list.

            Worth getting, No.
