TV pincushioning

Mickey Juice

Question

Just a quick question before I lug my TV off to get repaired.

What would cause a pincushing fault? ie bending in at the sides (all colours)?

It did it this morning when I turned it on... and just now as I typed this it has failed completely.. ie no sound other than a beeping/squeaking and no lights.

Can smell something too. I'm guessing a cap or similar has bit the dust... ?

Hey Mickey,

You Gotta watch out for that Euro Trash:D

I can supply solution, Possibly:unsure

OK it looks like a Grundig, :badgrin

This set may have a BEKO 1.1 Chassis

The beeping you hear is the horizontal o/p transistor is short circuit, because of dry joints on coil or E/W transistor & D505 dual diode

thats why e/w started playing up.

there will also be a couple of fusable resistors o/c.

pm if you want full details, or get it to a reputable repairer

about $30.00 worth of parts

an hours labour for someone who knows it.

Regards,

Ando

Hi Mickey,

Good to hear you got your set back working ok,

that D505 is hard to get.

only been able to source from Grundig so far.

these sets have a pretty good chassis, and should last a while.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to upgrade yet either.

some good stuff just around the corner,

Regards,

Ando

So it is all fixed and working? :unsure

Matthew

Whoops, forgot that bit! Yeah it's all OK. Got it back in the cabinet tonight. Bad design (for such a big TV), as it doesn't have any handles!

someones time is worth money, @ least $65 a hour when you factor in business overhead etc.

Yeah that's what I thought. I don't mind paying, esp. being local and saving me alot of hassle.

Yeah if it wasn't for http://www.mouser.com I'd be looking for a new TV!

Buying direct usually means buying 1000+ pieces. Mouser let me buy 1 (I bought 10 ;)) for $8

I just don't see what the fuss is with the current generation of TV sets.. :unsure I just see too many flaws like blurring and pixelisation.

I'm more than happy with my flatscreen, widescreen CRT. Especially when half my stuff I watch is Xvid or just SD DVD.

Care to enlighten me on the good stuff? ;)
