best options for speakers and volume controls in a lai 26

ostybeef

Question

i have a 26 inch upright lai that im fixing up and turning into a shooting cab.

the speakers are a bit shit so this might be a simple (stupid) question but what kind of speakers should i replace the originals with?

the other thing i need to know is how do i install a volume control and what do i use?

at the moment the sound coming out of the speakers is a bit crackly and way too loud! ive tried a few things out with a volume control but cant seem to work out how it works.

cheers

osty

You should be able to replace you bad speaker with one the same impedance (4 or 8 Ohms) and at least the same wattage.

As for the volume control, buy a 3 Watt 20 Ohm wire-wound pot (DSE / Jaycar?) and wire it as follows:

Centre terminal to speaker +ve

One end terminal to PCB output +ve

Other end terminal to speaker -ve and PCB output -ve

If the volume works backwards, reverse the two end terminals.
