Viper
Not that anyone REALLY cares but microwrx came from the first forum I ever joined. HPI is a manufacturer of radio control cars and shortly after I joined their forum they released a 1:18 scale RC car called the Micro. The released several bodies for it but no WRX yet I changed my handle in anticipation of a release that never came. I've used it everywhere since. I ended up getting the WRX body from an aftermarket supplier in the end and unless he's sold it Ryan now owns it.
Family Guy
HPI make some good shit. I've got a HPI suzuki Escudo 1:10 cover for my old kyosho spider nitro. Been sitting there for ages, cut it out and never got around to painting it.
Viper
Yeah, I've still got an unopened HPI WRX body that I intended to fit to my Nitro RS4 Pro but never got around to it. Sold the car, kept the body (may never find another one).
Family Guy
Yeah i never intended to actually run my car with the shell on, just to make it look pretty while it's sitting on the shelf :) Had to order it from the states, i was obsessed with that car from grand turismo. I've just got a force 12 engine with pullstart. To actually put the shell on it, i would have to start the engine up and put it on afterwards, by the time i did this i'm sure the engine would have shut off. I never was particularly good at tuning. Spend heaps fixing the car up, pretty much replaced everything. Just need to take it back and get some new bolts, there's something i should be doing. Viper
With the Corvette body I had on the RS4 i cut out the side window from the pull start side and reamed a hole directly over the head the same size as the shaft from the glow starter. I hated having to take the body off/on.
Family Guy
Yeah i've got another audi body that came with the car which has the glow plug and window cut out. Also the way the exhaust is positioned on the side of my car another hole has to be cut out. But after i spent so much money on it, (and also so much time that i would have spent painting and puting decals on) i really wouldn't have brought myself to cutting it up. Viper
Rc moving posts here. Figured I'd test the mod features and clear out the other thread seing as none of this pertains to the mod list.
Family Guy
No worries, i was going to suggest moving it to the general area so that everyone can read it. Here's some pics, the clear body is my suzuki pikes peak edition which i haven't been bothered to paint yet (That and those tinny little cans of paint are like $15 each.) And the other is my audi shell that has been cut in about 10 different places lol. Come to think of it, my brother has a wrx shell on his battery car, i should go take some pics. Viper
Some serious holes in that Audi. I love the Pikes Peak Suzuki shell, very nice. I haven't got any serious RC cars anymore. I traded Ryan my 1:18 HPI and an old 1:5 FG for a cocktail machine (which I am stil in the process of converting to MAME). I'd originally traded my 1:10 HPI for the 1:5 FG but other than get it going again didn't really use the FG (although it was fun to scare the local kids with....huuuuge). I think he sold the FG on eBay a couple of months back.
Family Guy
Here's a pic of what the suzuki looks like painted up. I really don't think this pic does it justice. Looks so good with the huge wing off the back. The other one is my brother's hpi subaru. It's a battery power top of the range tamiya model, practically every piece on it is carbon fibre. I laughed at him when he bought it thinking my nitro would kill it and that it was just a toy, but it's surprisingly quick. The 1:5 are pretty cool, but i was having enough trouble with the 1:10. Although i think the 1:10's are more tempremental. Nitro engines are a pain in the ass, even with hot and cold days your spose to re-tune the engine. Scotty T
OK, Well O thought I'd my 2c worth. Here's Nitro RC cars, or should I say Monster Truckes. My Savage SS, with heaps of hops ups. http://www.mopacity.com/out.php/i2133_RC001.jpg without shell http://www.mopacity.com/out.php/i2134_RC002.jpg Now MY Losi LST, not as many hops up as the Savage http://www.mopacity.com/out.php/i2135_RC003.jpg without shell http://www.mopacity.com/out.php/i2136_RC004.jpg I also use to have Giga Krusher, which has t engines http://www.mopacity.com/out.php/i2137_DSC01654.JPG http://www.mopacity.com/out.php/i2138_GigaCrusher012.jpg
Family Guy
There pretty nice :) I was tossing up for a while whether or not to get a truck of a street car. My biggest problem is finding somewhere to race it, i usually take it down to the industrial area on a weekend. Don't use it as much as i should, because for half an hour of race time there is like an hour worth of maintenance to go with it. Annoys me when i take it out with mates because they just expect you to be able to switch it on like a toys r us rc car. Not quite that simple. Scotty T
There pretty nice :) Annoys me when i take it out with mates because they just expect you to be able to switch it on like a toys r us rc car. Not quite that simple. Aint that the truth, the tunining, cleaning, replacing worn parts (damm clutch shoes), and chahrging the TX and RX batteries!! yeah I got monster trucks as I like to be able to take them off road and simply bash them, although they are both good for 65 km + speeds. One thing, it's easier to tune and keep tune with bigger motors, I use to own a 1/10th sacle monster truck, was forever tuning it.
Family Guy
Everytime i take it out, i find almost every screw and bolt in the thing has shaken it's self lose, so you have to go around and tighten the lot of them. Yeah would be nice to have the ability to take mine off road, i took it to a car park once that was sort of half sealed, that was a big mistake. Everytime i took a corner to sharply or something i would flip the thing. I agree with you about tunning, seems like everytime i take it out it need to adjusted. But most of the time it's not as big a deal as people make out. Usually it's just knowning to turn the carby screw a little bit the right way. I'd say mine is probably good for around the 60km mark as a guess. Would be alot faster if i had things like 2 speed gears etc.
Scotty T
yep, 2 speed helps, they have 3 speed for the savage, but to adjust 1st to 2nd you have to take the gearbox out!!!. I'm happy with the two speeds in both, I did have a 3 speed in the Giga Crusher (stock)! With off road, theres a new estate being built next door so got heaps of area to go for the time being, I love jumping these things off 4 -6 metre drops, they just take the abuse and keep going. All my parts are loctite in with the blue stuff. rarley have to re-tighten anything, if I do it's usually the screws that go into plastic. For me, cleaning is the worst part..
