The hunt is on again to find the best Donkey Kong player from Aussie Arcade and dare I say the best player in Australia.

    FAQ:

    1. Start & Finish

The competition commences 6pm AEST Friday 12th April
The competition finishes 6pm AEST Sunday 28th April

Feel free to practice, but scores must only be submitted for games played during the official tournament times above.

    2. ROM Set and Settings

We're playing as usual with the official Twin Galaxies settings:
ROM: dkong.zip - Donkey Kong [US Set 1]
    Lives: 3
    Extra Jumpman: 7,000 Pts

    3. How to submit a score

All that is required is to take a photo of your screen shot and upload it, either with a camera or by taking a screen grab in
Mame (Press F12 and a screen grab will be stored in your mame\snap folder). Post as many scores as you wish, making a
new post for each score so that we can track the scores and also see your progress over the 2 week+ tournament.

If you wish to be able to submit a score to international scoreboards such as MARP or Twin Galaxies, it is strongly
suggested that your record your game using WolfMame .106, however game recordings are not required for verification in
this tournament - we play using the honor basis, so play fair

    4. Live Streaming

If you live stream, feel free to post a link to your stream so that others can watch (and learn) your game play. I will put
together a thread in the arcade section (link will be posted here when it's done) if you are unsure of how to set up live
streaming. The official thread will list all those that will/might live stream so that you can check them out.

    5. Prizes

The winner and 2nd and 3rd place getters will receive a 2013 AA Kong Off icon to place in their signature should they wish
to use it. The icons along with 2013 AA banner have been graciously made by our resident graphic designer OOO.
Thanks to OOO again for the great work

If any of the Aussie Arcade sponsors would like to donate a prize, please PM me and I will add your details to the official
thread when it is created along with appropriate advertising

    6. Anything else

Hopefully that's everything covered, anything else just post a questions or comments in here and we'll sort it out prior
to the Friday night kick off.

    Good luck.

Just scored a new pb of 293400. Pity it's a bit too early. I think I'll struggle to beat that in the comp.

that's better than my PB of 266,000. I better get practicing

Yeah I'm pretty happy with that score. It's about 100k better then my previous best score. A friend of mine has built his PB up to 550 k. I'll try to convince him to join in the comp.

im looking forward to this. im want to try and beat my PB (170K) and hit 200k finally.

i have played a few games this week and im starting to get my mindset back into dkong instead of crazykong. i only got 127k, but i got 18800 on the first 2 stages which is amazing for me, i got 12500 on the rivet stage i think the fireballs were attracted to my hammers lol.

You mean 18,800 after the first stage (1-1 and 1-2, barrels and then rivets?). I'm not expert at playing at 1mil pace, but that's a nice start - I'm happy with 15,000+

      I'm generally happy with a 6000 1-1 and being 14000 after 1-2.

It's important to point press where possible, but not at the expense of losing a life - I generally die more often than not if I try to point press the barrels

I see Monsta Bonza has found this thread, looking forward to doing battle with him after the recent Wildcard event and after hearing from Ed in here today, should be a good fight between the three of us. If we all play secret squirrel maybe Kane will miss the fact that the Kong Off is happening

I am hoping this comp will push me do better at this game that I have a love/ hate relationship with.
My PB is 150K, would be really happy to crack 200K.
It's always the barrels that get me. I am a magnet for those bastards!

I just can't seem to gain any confidence on the Level 4+ springs, that's what does my head in on this game. Practice as much as I like, I just choke continually on this board

you must do alright at it to get to 260k though?

what level do u hit to get around the 260k mark?

I'm guessing your stuck on the lvl3-4 barrels.
And I'll have to say the hardest lvls in the earlier game even harder than 3rd elevators in my opinion.
After that the barrels are almost predictable. As for the elevators well practice and watch(I've managed to forget how to do them after the wildcard rematch)now I'm basically at the lvl were the pie factory is the bane of my existence.
As for score to lvl my old PB was 183000 now it's 244800 both of these were lvl 8 games so its hard to tell. Depends on the point pressing you do.
Hopefully this will push me to play more and crack the half million.
Wouldn't be surprised if John got up there as well.
If you sort the springs you have the skills on the other lvls.

That is level 8 for me. I can do the springs, I'm just not confident at any time doing them I'll have games where I don't die once on them, and then other games where I'll lose 2 or even 3 lives on the one spring level

I've been stuck at 266,000 since the last AA Kong Off 12mths ago I'll be happy with a 250K+ score to be honest

Might have a practice game tonight. Going to get some MDF this weekend and rip up a quick arcade box for myself so that I can play using a real joystick, my Mame Cab is in storage so I can't use that for this tournament

the have been playing a few games everyday this week to warm up for kong off. and I'm almost back at my pb. I hit 154k which is my second best score ever last night. and did it with out using hammers on barrels and always going for bonus on each level.

Just under 24 hours until we kick off, and some great news:

Just received confirmation from Arcade King that Aussie Arcade will be sponsoring this years comp:

First Place - $50 Account Upgrade
Second Place - $20 Account Upgrade
Third Place - $10 Account Upgrade

Thanks to AA for sponsoring this event

If you plan to play in the 2013 Kong Off and haven't already contributed to AA, I'd ask everyone to consider
doing so if at all possible, even if it's the minimum amount to help keep AA going which in turns allows
us all to enjoy tournaments like the Kong Off and all of the MGLs.

If any current AA sponsors wish to also add a prize (arcade gear, a gift voucher etc) just shoot me off a PM,
credit in the form of advertising will of course be given in the official thread which will be posted tomorrow
      night.

I'll list everyone (just us two so far) that is streaming in the official Kong Off thread which will
be posted tonight at 6:30p (I hope!)

I was going to do a separate thread up with a YouTube video on how to stream using
Twitch.TV & XSplit. Well I did one last night, but not real happy with it, so I may give it
another shot tonight or tomorrow with a better microphone and upload it to YouTube.

To put the process in very quick text format, anyone that wants to stream using these two
      services you need to:
      1. Register on www.twitch.tv - your username then becomes your stream : i.e. for me
      it's www.twitch.tv/mrbumpnjump
      2. Register & download the latest version of XSplit (V1.2)
      3. Install XSpilt and let it do any updates or software downloads necessary
      4. Set up your Twitch.TV account in XSplit
      5. Choose your Camera's or Screen regions to stream in XSplit
      6. Start the broadcast

Any probs, just post in here and send me a PM and I'll try and sort it out. Will try and
do the YouTube video tonight as it's obviously a lot easier that trying to describe it
      in the forum.
