I was thinking of going with Australis Internet (http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/isp.cfm/Australis-Internet-ADSL/292-1.html?p=11973), 1500/256 30/10 plan for $59. Get 30 peak, 10 off peak :unsure

Edit; one month is $99, 12 months is $0 but if you break contract fee is only $99 with no payout on monthly fee

same!

I'm still on dial up :rolleyes :lol , though iinet's adsl2 20/40 plan's the one I have been leaning towards because of whirlpool.net.au reviews.

Be careful as most ISP's now charge for uploads.

There are some really good wireless deals coming out and I have heard more will be out by late October, with the mobile phone providers bringing out some cool phone deals.

Cheers,

Really? That's news to me. I thought only Telstra charge for uploads and read recently Optusnet were thinking about it.

Thanks for that correction Pinny Parlour. Sorry, I worded that wrong.

I thought Optus had started to charge uploads. That was what I had read they may do, a little while ago, and others might follow suit.

Cheers,

Dodo is evil. I used to work there. So I say don't go with them.

I'm with TPG and I'm within a ADSL2+ enabled exchange so I have 50gig 2+.. So basically I get somewhere around a maximum of 1.5megabytes a second when it peaks out. Its really easy to use 50gig :P I pay $89 a month.

On the Optus Power rewards.

$69.00 for 20gig peak + 40gig Off peak

part of their DSL direct ( their brand name for ADSL2+).

As far as optus charging for uploads, that is only on the new Fusion brand of plan which bundles their telephony and internet.

Really designed for low end user mum and dad type customer.

Optus Cable Power Rewards $69.95 20gig peak / 40gig off peak. Have a small network of 3 PC's here, the ones downstairs only used for browing and the occaisional song download.. im the only one that really games online or downloads anything of any real size and have been very happy with the speed and reliability of the connection over the years we've had it.

Think about it.. $70 for 20gig of downloads.. Offpeak I don't even count cause the are usually set at strange times like 1am - 6am or something like that.. They are realy only good for torrent time, who's gonna be up on the net at that time (unless your an insomniac or on the dole). It's just downtime when the servers have excess bandwidth that they can use. Man us Aussies are getting ripped hard for internet.

I found that Telstra's cable services have gone downhill a lot lately so forget that.. I remember Optus cable used to be unlimited.. My mate used to go to work on it and it would go up to like 2 meg a second.. After everyone worked out that was a good deal the network got fully saturated and now they limit you back to like 28.8k after the download limit has been reached.

Optus offpeak is 12am-7am its speed is up to 100mbps
its 64kbps after you exceed the limit.

Ahh ok cool. They must have changed the policy.

Are you sure the speeds are 100mbps or your network card is showing you 100mbps? I don't think you will get any more than 3 megabytes per second on any ISP....

I'm on Green Tree Frog, just churned over from Internode a while back when they upped all the prices.

It's 512/128 with 40GB for $55 a month.

My exchange I can't get ADSL2 + otherwise I would go with TPG.

I'm with AANet.
They count upload or download, which ever is greatest (not both together) 48g limit, speed 1.5gb, 1am - 8am is charged at half the rate..
Cost $80 a month.
Also includes a static IP which is great if using P2P eg Torrents. and hosting stuff...

Think about it.. $70 for 20gig of downloads..

When i first joined it was something crazy like $135 for 12 gig and it might not even have been that many gigs.. i missed out on the netstats and thats probably what your mate was on.

I havnt been keeping up with Telstra Cable but from what i hear Optus is falling behind it and are rumored to be announcing speed increases soon. It wont really make any difference to how i use the net but would be nice to get a bit more for my buck. Ive looked at ADSL2 and we are quite a way from the exchange so i havnt done anything further about it.

Also Optus have had the speed cap at 64k for a while now, have never hit it though.

The offpeak download times are now 12am-12pm and have been for quite a while so quite a bit of "real" usage gets counted on the offpeak.. was a bit of a joke when it was 1am-6am or whatever it was.

Used to work for a major ISP here and we would cable round the office firewalls and patch into the backbone routers, I could literally lock my laptop up while torrenting. Maxed out the NIC totally, to get any responsive from it I would have to unplug the network cable. It was a POS tho, large hard drive for the time tho :)
