Please note that we are using the % scoring system for this MGL. The highest score in each game will receive 100 points/percent and each player below that score will receive a % of the highest score. The maximum therefore that anyone can score after all eight games are completed is 800 points for 8 wins.

Well yes errr, nice one Karate ... :redface
You are right about the Space Duel, it should be 17,040. I'll fix it up soon.

However on DK Jr you posted 30,900 on the thread, post no. 37 >>> http://www.aussiearcade.com/showthread.php/72022-MGL-24-Game-2-Donkey-Kong-Junior/page4

They are all sequels. :)

Hmmmm ... Space Duel to Asteroids maybe ... tick, Donkey Kong Junior to Donkey Kong ... big tick, Ghouls 'n Ghosts to Ghosts 'n Goblins ... another tick, Ms Pacman to Pacman ... yes - tick ...

So Games 5-8 hold the key to your extraordinary and excellent suggestion. Should we wait to find out? Why not! ... :)

I am a bit surprised Rat that Gorf isn't right up your alley. This is the type of game I expect when you complain that not enough unplayed games are in the MGL.

Rat
30th March 2015, 10:40 AM
Gorf is a real missed opportunity game, I can't imagine what the developers were thinking when they sat round the table discussing this........maybe it went something like this.

Let's rip off a few popular current games and roll them all into one release?
Yeah Cool.
OK, well Space Invaders is good, how are we going to change it slightly?
Let's make all the colours unbearably eye blistering so you can't even see it properly, remove the mystery scoring for the UFOs and stuff up the rhythm and pace of it.
Yeah that will work.
Now Galaxians.....you know that great feature where you get rewarded 800 for shooting the two red ships before the flagship? let's drop that.
etc etc etc

Not all the lesser known games are rubbish, there are plenty of lesser known classics that have not come up in MGL ever and probably won't ever as they only get nomed by one person. It's not only me, there are other MGLers who are nominating such games and finding they are the only person who knows of them or nominates them. Yes some of them will be rubbish, but some of them will be great games, personally I think it restores the balance when a rubbish game is included, it makes you better appreciate the next game, much like B grade movies are worth a laugh, and there is always someone who likes them. Even the Gorfs of gaming help to re-live some nostalgia, and give us a better perspective of all the games of the day.
So you won't be surprised to know that Gorf was already on my Fav's list and will remain there, even though it is rubbish and I enjoy giving it a well deserved bagging :)

Absolute Rubbish Spaaaaace Captain :D

I do enjoy some of the unplayed stuff and some of the obscure ones, but this game is almost exactly what I picture (without having seen the game) when you voice your opinion at times.

Rat
30th March 2015, 12:52 PM
Are you comparing the quality of my opinions to Gorf? we could coin a new phrase from that "Don't mind him he's just speaking a load of Gorf" :lol or do you wrongly assume that most old games that are not well known are of poor quality such as Gorf?

Pelly from 9th to 8th, kane 8th to 7th, outrun86 from 6th to 5th, and Brad winning Game 5 jumps from 4th to 2nd place, just behind the leader ...

It's coming down to the short end of the wick on the burning candle ... 3 weeks and 3 games to go ... who can make the top 20, better still the top 10, or maybe even higher ...
It's all to play for in MGL 24 ... give it your best shot, otherwise somebody else will!

I am not dedicating the time I need to, to any games. And looking at scores already achieved on the last two games I don't think I will do enough. I will try, but I don't think I will get there.

Hyper Olympics was my chance to move up the ladder I think but I underachieved but the game did give me blisters. My old hands/fingers/arms don't hold up like they used to.

DonPedro moves up from 23rd to 22nd place, John73 nails Game 7 and jumps from 20th to 12th place ... :119:... :038:
Nicko71 from 17th to 14th, DKong from 11th to 10th, Jammasized 10th to 8th, CrazyKongFan from 6th to 4th and RMacauley from 4th to 3rd ...

1 game to go, 7 days to go and all to play for ... a top 20 finish is a great effort and a top 10 is awesome ...

:)

Just noticed: the closest score after 7 is DKong on 202.36 vs Rat on 202.06. That's just 0.3 points difference ... who wins that one? ... Game 8 to find out ...

After 66 days of classic arcade gaming, MGL 24 has now come to a close.

The final standings are below:

http://i.imgur.com/fqVM7Lp.png

CONGRATULATIONS to the Top 10 in MGL 24 and the next 10 places who improved their scores and made it very competitive for the whole field.
From 11th to 34th place I hope you enjoyed playing the games and the friendship over the forum. A total mystery of games this was, no nominations and plenty of gusto!

Congratulations to Barra on his 2nd MGL win.
His two game wins and very strong competition from the player field made it go all the way over 66 days down to the last game on the last day!
It was a tremendous battle for the title and Brad played brilliantly for 2nd place.
RMacauley played strongly and placed very well in most of the games for a podium finish 3rd place.
outrun86 follows his runner up placing in the last MGL with a very fine 4th place.
It was great to have CrazyKongFan join in for his first MGL and he did extremely well with 5th place.
DKong finished in 7th place by just 1.12 points! His great score in Game 8 Raiden was just was too good and sealed it.
Pelly takes 8th place with his best percentage scores in Gorf and Raiden, both shooters.
Rat takes 9th place even though he forgot to post a Frogger score ... :rolleyes
kane registers a score for Raiden on the last day and just makes the Top 10. That effort was very important too, as it means he has his 16th Top 10 result out of 17 MGLs … :038: ... :041:

With 8 games contested there were 6 different game winners … OOO, Barra, outrun86, Brad, Jammasized and John73.
Congratulations to the game winners too …

Well that was an interesting MGL 24 … we had two new games and nobody knew what games would be played, as there was no call for nominations.
The MGL will be back better than ever for MGL 25 - Arcade Patrol … starting on Friday 22-May-2015.
In the meantime you can recharge, polish your cab, fix the stick and buttons, or get a new cab or PC and enjoy your break. A quarter century of MGLs to come …

And another surprise is … I normally do not have a prize for the MGL winner, but thanks to MamePatrol’s generous offer (:038:) to print and pay for the cost of an excellent tee and delivery again,
I designed this gem for the MGL 24 winner (yes it will have your AA name on the back!) … Congratulations again Barra. Let’s see you wear this and post a victory photo on the forum!

PS OOO are you going to reveal the "world famous list?" :)

I have to give credit where it's due ... after Game 5, kane thought it may be the KLOV 100, the world famous Killer List Of Video Games ... http://www.arcade-museum.com/TOP100.php
Yes that was the list which was used for random selection, however not the top 100, it was the top 80, to keep it in the Classic Arcade Zone.
Any game in that 80 that was not eligible, eg steering wheel, two joysticks, too many buttons etc., was out if drawn.

Here's the KLOV 80:

1971 - Computer Space

1974 - Tank
1976 - BiPlane
1976 - Death Race

1980 - Wizard of War
1981 - Donkey Kong
1981 - Frogger
1981 - Galaga
1981 - Gorf
1981 - Mousetrap
1981 - Ms. Pac-Man
1981 - Qix
1981 - Stargate
1981 - Vanguard
1982 - Black Widow
1982 - Burgertime
1982 - Dig Dug
1982 - Donkey Kong Jr.
1982 - Jungle King
1982 - Joust
1982 - Moon Patrol

1982 - Tron
1982 - Xevious
1982 - Zaxxon
1983 - Dragon's Lair
1983 - Elevator Action
1983 - Gyruss
1983 - Major Havoc
1983 - Spy Hunter
1983 - Star Wars
1983 - Tapper
1983 - Track and Field
1984 - Punchout
1985 - Choplifter
1985 - Gauntlet
1985 - Ghosts 'n Goblins
1985 - Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom
1986 - Arkanoid
1986 - Outrun
1986 - Rampage
1987 - 1943 The Battle of Midway

1991 - Captain America and the Avengers

Now kane has me thinking, he guessed the list after 5 games in, so for the next MGL ... hmmmm ... think harder! ... maybe? ... haha ... got it ... you'll have to wait till next time to find out ... :stirthepot:

Yep well done OOO for displaying MC MGL qualtity second to none, this comp has been growing from its humble beginnings.
Well done to all the participants we all make it, I agree so many games I would not even try and now go back to and keep trying.

All the participants deserve a pat on the back.

Keep playing and thanks again OOO.

Would have posted this sooner but I've had internet access issues.

Congrats to Barra and Brad. My scores were for the most part good but nowhere good enough to catch you guys. I'd tip my hat to you both but I'm not wearing one. :D

To OOO all I can say is well done on running yet another awesome MGL. I know you love to spur us all on to greater heights in our gaming endeavors but I'm sure I'm not the only one to say:

Play an entire MGL for once and show us how it's done for crying out loud!!!! :)

Well played to everyone who competed. We all do the best we can but hopefully have fun while we're doing it. To me that's what MGL is about.

Cheers
