Same, pretty sure it's the first time I have played it, elements of Juno first in it as well. Good game so far.

Another game where you get more than 3 letters to use for the top score. So many possibilities for putting obscenities into the high score table :lol You can only be so creative with 3 letters :lol

Amazingly I've never played this game, or even knew what style of game it was. Now that I have, I like it. There's some interesting history around this game. Nintendo banked a lot of money on it being a success. Shipped heaps of cabinets and the game flopped everywhere. The legendary shigeru miyamoto (the author of radar scope) was tasked with saving a young Nintendo from financial ruin. They put him to work coding a new game that could be used on the radar scope hardware. So what did he come up with ? Donkey Kong :)

What a cool selection

There's a whole series relating to this game, includes Juno First and a few others.

I though this was a success in Japan, but flopped in the USA, where they had a few warehouses of them lined up. If you like this sort of history stuff, a great read is The Ultimate history of Video Games by Steven Kent. Starts at the fist command line games, goes through the golden age of arcades, Sega, Atari, Nintendo and up to PS2. Lots of quotes and interviews from industry types.

Sometimes the best hints you get are by looking at other peoples scores: 24,350 afetr 2 patterns compared to my 22,450 after 4 (below). A bit more point pressing required.

Its a common binary denominator identification in early programming. It basically was a result of low bit code resurrection of particular parameters in very basic codes, which most pre 83 games had.

Do you a source to back this up? The nerd in me would really like to know more about this. I know a lot of games use binary as it's the basis of computer programming, but I don't see how 7650 fits into any binary pattern

Here is my first shot.... I can see how it didn't do well back in the day, it is no Galaga.. Either way very cool to play it as I had never played it before, even though I had read about its history... I always thought owning a red (old Radar Scope) Donkey Kong cabinet would be cool.

As far as this tournament goes it is a sign that I will win with a score far in excess of the current MGL high.

strangely enough, its not too far from the truth as there are commonalities in the assembly language programming amongst many games as many of the cpus used had roots in similar microcoding methodologies, using the same bipolar or metaloxide semiconductor designs and similar silicone substrates and doping methods. the term Z80 was a derivative of the 7650 denominator as it was written so badly on one of the engineering design sheets by the engineer that the senior engineer shortened it to z80 instead of the 7650.

No posts in 4 days... obviously a very popular game :lol Now Spartan, I expect you to post within an hour of this :rolleyes

Annoying game, after getting high 20k's repeatedly I had a good run and made it through level 3 and most of 4 on my last life. I might be able to crack 40k or even 50k but I don't know if I can really be bothered. Lady Bug is a lot more fun.

Sorry to disappoint you. Have nothing extra to post on this one at the moment. Have to concentrate on Lady Bug. Need to make up massive ground. I will be lucky if I make the top 10. Might try Radar scope again towards the end of the week (1 -2 hours max) but like you, note sure if I can really be bothered.

What I find interesting about this game is I recognise the re-use of game sounds for other Nintendo games a year later. The base line has been re-used in Donkey Kong and the the winged ship and one other sound is re-used in Space Firebird. Not surprising but definitely interesting. Do you guys also hear it and if so any others?

I still reckon it's a great game and why peopledon't like it is because there is no real pattern to learn so it doesn't suit "robot" approaches. But it's good because you have lots of choices in how far you push things - shoot the aliens low and get more, leave them longer and get more fire tailed attackers.

Seems to me you need tobe lucky and string together a lot of good boards to get a deceent score. And did anyone ever work out what the bouncing blue / red rthing did except kill you? It doesn't appear too often, but I never managed to hit it.

Finally a great piece f Jenglish encouragement "I wish you to doyour best" - hard to not like.

How good is Berzek...Never played the 2600 version before, but it's really good given the tech they had to use. Sure, Berzerk was a simple game, but it captured the gameplay almost perfectly. Pitfall, River Raid, such gems. Must get a friend over for a night of Combat too :)

Sorry off topic. Maybe need to start a new topic to get people's opinions on must-have 2600 carts.
