Disable antivirus and test.

If this does not work then disable firewall and test.

Do you have any other accounts set up in OE that work fine?

Was this working recently and suddenly stopped, or is this a new account that you setup and can not receive email? Check with acejas that receiving server in your settings are correct.

seems your pc cannot resolve host address of mail.bcpconstructions.com

start a command prompt and type:

telnet mail.bcpconstructions.com 110

and ping mail.bcpconstructions.com

and see what error you get

Delete the account and recreate it. Rinse and repeat.

ok so pc can talk to mail server ok

suggest you follow through this guide:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514

or as mentioned by acejas, I also use thunderbird http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/

you could download and trial anyway, if it works then there is some corruption in outlook and refer to the kb article

Mikie

ok perhaps you've got a proxy set

start internet explorer > tools > internet options > connection settings> lan settings

if pointing to a proxy server, by default your mail will use it too

dracer
23rd August 2010, 05:42 PM
tried all that too, although slightly confused, the proxy box is not ticked

Mikie

there are three boxes, none should be ticked (auto detect settings, pac file, proxy server)

download this little utility and run Tcpview

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx

start outlook express , on tcpview and look where outlook is connecting to

dracer
23rd August 2010, 06:02 PM
i cant actually see outlook in the programs that are running on tcpview, its got anout 30 but no outlook

Mikie
23rd August 2010, 06:56 PM
on tcpview > options> tick show unconnected endpoints

The Pinny Parlour
23rd August 2010, 09:05 PM
Try the account in Outlook or, if you don't have MS Office installed, download and install Mozilla Thunderbird and try your account settings in that.
