Just got back from Gold Coast. Timezone at Cavill which has 4 pinnies

NBA, Black Night, Lotr LE & CSI

NBA was a great game by the way!

I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw this LOTR LE absolutely hammered!

The gold lockbar was white, side decals worn etc

I have soft spot for this pinnie as I own one.

I realized the difference between HUO and Operator based STERN pinnies.

And how it seems thay now they are more of a 'consumer product', and not designed to last.

As a local on the Coast. Not surprised it was well worn. Take the amount of wear and multiply it by around 10 - 15 (I am sure it has made a lot of money along the way).

Bah, the strippers leaning on it would have worn out the sides.....

Batman Dark Night

Looks like there already was a clearcoat.

No soft plating will handle that kind of wear well - Only kinds of plating that would would be chrome or maybe nickle.

Gold or brass will only ever be decorative, not durable :(

Maybe there is a $$ market for solid brass lock down bars :unsure

Cheers

How can you see the clear coat?

Wear? from hands...... mmm hands vs metal , dam seems crazy.

I had some ramps plated dec plating and it has a metal ball running over it time and time again. no wear yet and that was yrs ago :unsure

Remember sweat, salts and oils that come out of the skin. Polish some brass, rub your fingers over it and watch it go green after a couple of days

yeah, but hands = sweat (salt water), grit, wedding rings and other crap... Those ramps are in a protected area, and only getting whacked with a clean polished ball which has a miniscule contact area (especially compared to a hand). Put in a pitted old ball and they would wear eventually.

as for the clear coat - it is just a guess based on the many colours visible in the wear - it looks like:

base metal -> substrate -> gold/brass -> clear

But I could be talking out my ass :)

I have seen some disasters with clearing gold parts before - the clear when it starts to peel looks bloody terrible!

yeah sweaty hands would create a bad scenario but still, thats crazy wear! :o

the clear i have seen done once before was nice, not even recognizable that it was applyed. i have seen a bad attempt as well. its all about surface prep
