I have always used DVD shrink to backup DVDs, but as there have been no updates since 2004 I have come across a couple of discs with copy protection which I have been unable to get past.
Just wondering what software you guys use for your backups, and can they tackle the new copy protections????

Found DVDfab, http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
which is an great program, but only a 31 day trail

Download DVD43 and try that with Shrink before looking further. It's small and free.

I use DVD43 with Nero and don't have an issue ripping my discs to my hdd.

dvdfab free is the way to go for windows

it will copy the entire disc

if you want to modify it then once copied to hdd run dbd shrink on it and get just the movie

or

run auto gordian knot on it and convert it to xvid for playing in a divx player

or

grab a copy of ubuntu - www.ubuntu.com

install k9copy and copy all the dvds you want for nada and have the abilty to pick/choose what you want like dvdfab does:cool:

I thought that the free version of DVD fab wouldn't compress the ripped file to fit on a single disk.

Which is why I found the full version elsewhere :)

So have I got the correct dvdfab?

It comes up with dvdfab is the all-in-one software for coping blah, blah
You can use any registered option or try any option 30 days for free or use HD dycrypter for free.

I was using DVD to DVD on the 30 day trial which seems to be a good all in one.

Thanks for your help guys :045:

hd decrypter is the go, it does it for free

if you install dvdfab on a new pc it will let you use a*ALL* features for 30 days then the free version kicks in and you can use it forever if you dont register it.

the free version will copy *ANY* disc and rip to the hdd, *BUT* it will copy the *ENTIRE* disc and not let you make any changes at all.

after its ripped to HDD, you can modify if however you like.
if you find it does not compress to the disc to a 4.7 gig disc, then install dvdshrink and point it at the directory on the hdd with the files on it and let dvdshrink take care of the compress to 4.7 gig and dump all the crap you dont want.

there is another dvd ripper i forgot to mention i found a few weeks back

http://www.dvdsmith.com/download.html

again for windows.... its not the greatest dvd ripper round, but its not bad either
