Hey tye3333, thanks for adding your score. Was the game set on default settngs (if you can remember)?

It's all we've got for this game so far, so probably not a big deal;)

Yep just on fct settings, this was when it was in the milk bar down the road for 20c a game, was taken away about 6month ago now :(

What do you mean not a big deal ;)
Thats a great score obviously clocked it, I haven't hit 3,000,000 yet, wingtipvortex managed 4,600,000 on mine before we lost the visor cover that keeps the balls in the locks :cry
Mine is on factory , 3 balls, now just need a plastic visor cover so I challenge the score :)

So did you get way over 9,999,990 , would be interested in your final score :unsure

in the end i got about 0,12X,XX . when it clocks over the 0 at the start stays. the sola valu was about 5,000,000.

I actually meant to say so I can challenge (play) against your top score, didn't mean I doubt your score, sort of sounded wrong what I was saying:).

Ah yes the Solar value, like the way you build up your bonus values on different parts of the PF.
And multiball is defiantly a part of this game not just a feature.

i just wish they would put another 20c pin back, now its EPP at $1 :sleep + :realmad: = :cry

Just meant not a big deal at this point whether it was on factory settings or not, since we didn't have any other scores for the game:)

The score itself - definitely a big deal. Not bad for 20c a game! Have added your score tye3333.

Ok, tweaked the machine and patched up the visor plastic, and finally after the 4th can of Turkey managed a game, then the right Big Blue ramp switch:realmad: stop working , so had to pull the top PF apart (again, getting quick at it now ), broken wire to the right switch :realmad::realmad:, so two more Turkey cans and re-soldered and replaced.

First game my top score
Factory settings, 3 ball
5,631,670

You can also put WTV ( Wingtipvortex) score or 4,881,780 in third position :p as per photo

I didn't like that the solar value jackpot carries over from game to game and can make the scoring unbalanced, as above scoring 5mill with one shot, so I searched and found a hacked ROM that fixes this issue.

Mine is now factory settings, except the solar value starts at 300k each new game. Great to know about the zero after clocking it, will make it easy for me to get a pic and upload when I do :D

I'm happy to be in second place still, for now....I'm coming after #1 (http://www.aussiearcade.com/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=1) tye3333 ;)
Hey Tye3333 you might be interested in coming up to the meet here in November for few of games of Pinbot?

P.S. my second highest is about 8.8mill but the high scores reset due to a glitch....hopefully a power circuit issue, have it plugged into it's own power point now, fingers crossed it won't happen again :rolleyes

Updated, good idea on the rom hack, I would have thought they would have put a menu option in to disable the carry over jackpot.

Makes it harder.

doesn't seem to anyone updating this, but I'll post this anyway.... 7,916,110. 3 Balls, Factory Settings.

This was the first game after I fitted Superbands (one red, and one blue) and man, they do make a diff. not as bouncy, still enough to bounce pass, but much better for a live catch and i think the feel is better.

Also got my first 10x Vortex skillshot for 1 million points :D owned this machine for 4 months and played it a lot in that time, never even got up past 6x Vortex before. Also in this score was a 3.4 million Solar Bonus.

I'm not going to get a hacked rom, i really like the fact the solar bonus holds over between power-offs. It's great when you have mates round and the bonus is right up there, the tension to get that Solar Eclipse is high

Glad you are enjoying your Pin-Bot :)

IMHO though having a high score where half of it was set up by previous games is not really legit....3.4 million Solar Bonus that must be a huge amount of ramp shots previously before collecting the solar value. (Just worked it out at 70 ramps shots)
http://pinball.org/rules/pinbot.txt

I find collecting the solar value during multi ball is not too difficult so it would not be often I get more than 5 or 6 ramps before collecting it.

Yeah Superbands make live catches very easy, I have not tried them on my machines as the couple of friends machines that have them I think it alters the original feel too much and makes me feel like I'm cheating. I just tried some Titans on my MMR as they were supposed to be more like original rubber, but I found the ball rolled too fast on them and actually made gameplay much harder. I'm sticking to old school original rubber for my games :)

Keep playing Jed you have away to go yet, I clocked mine with the bonus reset hack and original rubbers :D but I have only ever done it once....next two HS are in the 9mill then fourth is 8mill.....anything around 5mill is a great game for me and very exciting when you get it flowing that well, I still have games quite often under 1mill.

It's nice when you get the goals that you don't get often like reaching the Sun or getting 10x vortex and you hear those rare callouts....Pin-Bot is a classic :)

I don't agree Rat. It's as legit as the rom it came with. To say getting a high score this way isn't 'legit' is being precious, as is saying using superbands is cheating. I think you need to be careful, or you'll fall off that high horse of yours :p

I think you need to be careful, or you'll fall off that high horse of yours :p

Just my opinions :) yeah I agree I did come across as a smart arse LOL.....but I have worked for it as I have been playing Pin*Bot for years compared to yourself playing for a few months and getting a big jackpot to boost your score which I know is just part of the ruleset but IMO makes the game unbalanced. Bride of Pinbot is sort of the same with the billion shot although you do have to earn that one, but it becomes a one shot game. The balance of Pin-Bot is restored by the hacked ROM I think....I do understand what you are saying about you and your mates trying to get the big jackpot though....normally it would be just player preference but when we are talking high score tables it makes a difference. It's my choice to make it harder, that's what I like :)
@tye3333 (http://www.aussiearcade.com/member.php?u=73) has the top score in this thread being the first to post clocking it.....but if anyone is editing this thread I think I should bump him down to second as he got a 5mill carry over jackpot in his 10mill but I had no carry over jackpot :D :p

As far as Superbands go, I know my thoughts about them are possibly in the minority, I think they even use them at PAPA now? but I think they make some games too easy compared to original rubbers, I have been practicing my live catches HEAPS and I'm getting there slowly. But when I played a mates MET-LE with supers and found live catches much easier it didn't make me want to change to them, personally I think if I learn the hard way I should be better at live catches all round on a range of games, that is my hope anyway.

YEP you will laugh to know that Karma just bit me hard :o:lol

I looked back through the thread and realised I had not posted here when I clocked mine last November, I searched my PC for a pic and didn't immediately find one so I went downstairs to power up my game and take a pic. (found pics on PC later)

When I turned it on I was greeted with FACTORY SETTINGS on the display FAAAARRRRKKKKK......I will check my batteries, it was OK just last week when @Spacewarrior (http://www.aussiearcade.com/member.php?u=14998) played it.....he must have broken it :realmad: :realmad: :lol I hope it is just the batteries, I don't think they are that old though???? fingers crossed.

Nice score Jed! I need to stop working on my Pinbot and play it. :redface

I think scores obtained with both the normal rom set (factory rom) and modified set (same as factory minus carry over) are all perfectly valid. But they could be categorised on separate high score tables (or perhaps flag the scores where carry over was disabled since it's the non default setting).

I prefer the modified rom set myself so my scoring in each game is balanced - but that's just my choice. I've kept the original set though so I can swap them back in at any time if I change my mind.

Rat

I don't think a different score table is necessary as we should all be playing the same game on factory settings. But a footnote denoting which rom would be good.

hahah that is pretty funny Rat, after the discussion we had then your battery craps out :lol

I can see your point though. and I also want to say in no way was i just building up the solar bonus to collect, that 3.4 mill jackpot was a result of three drunken blokes playing for a couple of hours and none of us being either sober or competant enough in that state to actually hit the ramp when it was lit :rolleyes we had plenty of goes at it too. Next day I played straight as a die and hit it first time I time I got it lit. Beer doesn'tr always help ;)

Not a bad idea for different roms, or whatever. I just love playing me Pin*Bot :)

Thanks, needs another quick edit though as I'm now coming equal first (fair enough) and second, so you can probably delete my second place score and bump the others up a ranking.

I'm enjoying having a game of Pin*bot to try and get my score back, it really is a fun game that I still enjoy even next to my MMR :) Sometimes I think It could do with a 5ec ball save though :rolleyes

all good mate. btw i'm not completely sold on the superbands, apart from that one specy game i had, i have not even got near 3 mill since, and had many games under 1 mill. do these somehow have more punch ? i think i'm getting more airballs since i put the superbands on. i've had the ball jump from the middle visor post, to the upper bagatelle playfield twice ! freaky.

Rat
26th May 2016, 11:01 PM
Put my name back on the top of my game today with a 3.5 mill game :)

The Titans on mt MMR gave me MORE airballs compared to normal, MM gets some airballs due to the nature of the game, I think mine were mostly caused by the post rubbers (silicone) you can feel that the Titans are softer.

Make sure your flipper rubbers (bands) are properly seated down on the flipper ridge if there is any gap that can cause air balls.

As I said before I now know I like traditional rubbers.......I bought some red and blue Titans for Pin*bot and have not even tried them after the MMR experience.

I run RED flipper rubber on Pin*Bot with white everywhere else and it keeps clean and plays well, mine has a playfield protector also which is great, I do get the occasional airball on Pin*Bot but that is normal.

Today I got my first ever airball that got stuck and required the glass off to remove :o

I've found the red and blue titans to be good on Pinbot. They're not quite a good as white rubber, but I like them.

I'm changing my mind on the superbands on the flippers though. I think i'll go back to normal rubber soon. I'm using white superbands at the moment on both flippers.

I plan to pickup a transparent blue flipper on a US order soon, so when that happens, I'll set up normal blue rubber on the transparent blue flipper on the left and red rubber on the transparent red flipper on the right.

I choked in one of my games tonight - I had the solar bonus set up to collect on 3 occasions in the same ball, and couldn't hit the damn ramp - I hit everything else but the ramp. Ugh. Would have pushed myself past 3mil for the first time. Maybe tomorrow night. :)

Rat
27th May 2016, 12:08 AM
The outlanes are tough but with practise and a firm nudge you will beat them mostly, every now and then you will still get a ball that goes down the outlanes fast and clean without a bounce or maybe even without hitting a flipper, that's Pin*bot.

With practice you learn to nudge and bump before the ball goes towards the outlanes and keep one step ahead.

I like that at any time you have to decide what you are going for, will I hit the ramp or the solar targets? etc.

After years of play (on and off) I find that out of a 10+ game session on average I would probably get one 3mill game and three or four 1 to 2mill and the rest under 1mill including a 200k game :) When I'm playing it regularly the occasional 5mill game is not uncommon and I have got a couple of 9mill but in all that time I have only clocked it once.

Jed
27th May 2016, 01:49 AM
that's a weird spot to get trapped @Rat (http://www.aussiearcade.com/member.php?u=2636), I've not had that one yet... my weirdest trap spots so far are between the top 2 layers of the visor, ball jumped up between them as it was closing and got trapped in there behind the smoked visor screen. my flippers are really strong, and occaisonally from an on the fly shot, the ball can launch up the ramp, get air and get wedged between the plastic and the glass...

only had them on a short time but I feel superbands do give you an easier trap generally ? but they're maybe a little too sticky....I might go back to regular rubber too. I put all new rubber on the upper playfield posts, that's so much more bouncier now and more fun to bounce the ball around, trying to guide it back down for another shot at the vortex :)

has anyone got the extra ball shot down ? IE where you swap the extra ball light through the outlanes and inlanes with your ball trapped, and set it up so your next short advances the EB light to the inlane and plus shoots the ball up through that inlane just after it lights. can be done but the shot is oh-so close to the end of the flipper, getting it wrong usually means a drain. cool little challenge though :)

Rat
27th May 2016, 09:11 AM
I know the shot you mean but I have never practiced it, I will give it a few tries today, safest way to get the extra ball is up the vortex ramp and down the right hand inlane that's what I try for.

Jesder
27th May 2016, 09:28 AM
On several occasions last night I panic pressed and switched the lit insert 1 too many. Missed many extra balls :(

Need to work on my zen skills.

I also need to work on nudging as it's a skill I've not yet developed but a very vital one to have.

I'm having a lot of fun on Pinbot though. To finally be playing it and not working on it is awesome.

I know the shot you mean but I have never practiced it, I will give it a few tries today, safest way to get the extra ball is up the vortex ramp and down the right hand inlane that's what I try for.

D'oh! Can't believe I never thought of that :rolleyes thanks.
Jesder I know what you mean about the ramp when it's lit. Sometimes I can hit that ramp at will, but when the solar bonus is lit, for me the difficulty increases 10x :redface

880,000? Keep going Rat - you will break your first million one day :p

I've switched back from white super bands to white rubber on my flippers. I like the performance of rubber on the flippers better. Getting close to pushing my high score up, but fall just short each time.

Thanks Jed :) I don't know how many EBs I had in total during the game but as stated before it is at factory + the harder hacked rom with Jackpot reset. The 6.6mill is the end of actual first ball, the next ball after that was my first EB and was a shitty ball possibly ending in 6.8 about after Planet bonus.

Learning effective nudging is paramount to Pin*Bot, you need to read the nudge well in advance, I have my tilt set at factory also and I do nudge hard enough to get on average one warning per game, but I never fully tilt I'm not a rough player :)

Great score mate!

Time to start playing with the glass on though :p

Nudging appears to be crucial - I've lost count of the out lane drains that get me and I need to be able to counter / prevent it to move forward with my survival.

I haven't played for awhile as I've been bust with X-Files. I really should get back into Pinbot and push my score higher.

Completely smashed my old Pinbot high score today. Had never gone past 2.4 million before, but managed to fall just short of 6 million in my best game to date.

Picked up 2 extra balls along the way, with a very nice 500,000 skill shot on my last ball.

5,933,940

Factory settings - 3 ball - with ROM change for jackpot reset between games (as per my previous scores).

Great score 😎 sometimes if I keep focusing on solar ramp I will get the occasional ball back to the shooter lane. That combined with getting a couple of extra balls in a row has allowed me to max out the skill shot at a million a couple of rare times. This is rewarded with a cool seldom heard call out.
