I knew this would happen. <_< Only just back into the world of arcade madness and I'm giving myself more work than needed  The things we do for the fricken love of it. All good!

After dabbling again in my first vector preservation job in 4 years, working with the experienced vectoriser Zorg, the satisfaction of such projects has given me the taste again and I've decided to keep an active artwork vector joblist. However, with life and projects running at a million miles an hour, I am only going to keep one or two job goings at a time. I'll pretty much work these jobs during downtime @ home (with a nice cold beer of course  ) or spare time during quiet nightshifts at work.

I'm brushing up and learning the important aspects of compiling vector artwork for the process of screen printing, as classic artwork was originally done. Hence, where relevant, my vector projects will be compiled using the screen-printing layer processes (color separations, bleeds etc) There's really only 3 places in the US that use this screen-printing process to reproduce classic artwork in it's original form, so it's a selective and more expensive process. Also, I will select my projects in line with this path, to allow a greater option of usuable artwork for these screen-printing troops to use. No need to start a screen-print friendly vector job on 'Rastan Saga 2':D

In relation to setting up bleeds in my vector projects, I will only compile bleeds if a project is being specificaly done, on request, as a screenprinting job or something very special. It can be quite time consuming and laborious, although not difficult.

I'll keep this thread updated for the interested and to keep my passionate soap-box mouth happy <_<. I'll update with progress posts and update the main Work In Progress and Outstanding Project lists below. WHen the projects are updated, I'll be uploading them to Zorgs artwork repository .. http://vectorlib.free.fr/

Game On ladies :066:

Work In Progress:

'Donkey Kong Jr' CPO: Original trace being re-compiled via new scan. Color matching, color seperations, bleeds and dimension verification outstanding.

'10-Yard Fight' CPO: Scan obtained. Vectorisation commenced. Original NOS CPO sourced (but not yet purchased). To be used for color matching.

Outstanding Projects:

'Battlezone' Sideart: Initially Zorg's stalled trace. Working on main center, high detailed explosion which is now completed. Now have Full Sideart Scan available. Having numerous issues. On-Hold until sorted.

'10-Yard Fight' Marquee: Scan obtained. Original Marquee sourced (not yet purchased). To be used for color matching.

Completed:

Jungle Hunt Marquee: Completed. Aqured new marquee scan from Gibo. Full re-trace complete. Color separations and bleeds done. Color matched via original marquee and Pantone color chart (Thanks to prok) Uploaded to Vectorlib.

'Bubble Bobble' Marquee: Completed. Original trace corrected & finalised. Color seperations done. No bleeds. Tried to Pantone color match with an original marquee. No luck with finding one on numerous forums. Color matched to scan and uploaded to Vectorlib.

Some kwik Battlezone sideart progress shots. Trace done but pre-color seperation and bleeds.

Also showing a close up of the detail on the 'star' legs [Have turned the layers invisible. Just outlines showing] Slow process tracing each speckle by hand. And NO ... NO auto-tracing was done. <_<

When done, Zorg will send me the rest of the sideart to merge and process.

Downloading the Full Battlezone sideart as we speak.. all 250meg of it  and off to pickup the Jungle Hunt from Gibo.

Quiet nightshift again .. ;) .. Started color separation on the Bubble Bobble.. Still practicing/testing efficient methods in applying bleeds in certain circumstances.
[color separations on the last example layer are separate ... I just turned them all on to show them together]

#Edit# Finished

Brian (prok) from Gamestencils.com, a legend, color matched the Jungle Hunt marquee today for me via an original JH marquee and Pantone color chart. Uploaded to Vectorlib.

My next personal project, will be starting on vectorising the 10-Yard Fight CPO from a good scan.

Loved this game in the old days. My next build after the T&F cocktail is another repro.. namely a 'Jungle Hunt' upright replica. However, thinking of building a 10-yard as a parallel build. Same cabinet. Marquee is available. Sideart and Bezel difficult to find... but out there.

Also working with Gibo on some vector stuff. Didn't I say I was gonna keep quiet on the vector side of things?? Who was I kidding <_<

All good! :D

Amazing Stuff mate

Cheers.. But not as amazing as it looks. Plenty of guys on here could do the same stuff. As long your competent.. know a few tricks, pedantic, patient, and willing not to cut corners. Can be tempting sometimes when zoomed in tracing something 3 or 4mm wide on full screen. EG.. Some AI users out there would just trace that "taito' symbol in the JH marquee without round edges, becaus its so small and you'd have to look close to notice. Sometimes I don't blame them ... but if you want to repro artwork, the closer, the more original. Plus if I cut corners ... and only I know ... I still know!!!!!! Eventually eats me up. Hence, my rehash on some of my first few traces after returning.

As expected.. Correct color matching for the 'Bubble Bobble' marquee has been unsuccessful. Asked for assistance in the other main forums, but no luck.
Must remember though, from what I can gather, this is not the original Taito marquee, but a Bootleg.. hence making the chance of finding an original marquee a bit more difficult.
I originally picked this project in the early years because it was a good project to learn from. Nothing intricate and the scan was fantastic. BB doesn't do much for me.

So ... uploading to Vectrolib as is. Complete overhaul, but color matched from scan... which appears to have been cleaned up anyway. Done.

Nice 10-YF CPO and Marquee scans now in hand :066:. Sideart will be hard to find. Will probably stencil the side using the standard Taito work, but matching the 10-YF color scheme. This one will be slow going. Plenty of small details on the grid-iron dudes, including pain-in-the-ass standard and reverse half-tones :realmad:

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9922/10yardcab.jpg (http://img86.imageshack.us/i/10yardcab.jpg/)

Half-Tones you say? WTF you say? They're used in screenprinting. Kwik lesson. I'll just quote from an interesting website for anyone curious on screenprinting stuff. http://www.screensilk.com/2007/01/the-secret-to-full-color-screen-printing/ Although interesting ... made me yawn <_<

"A halftone is the series of little dots you see when you look at a photograph in a newspaper. Halftones are dots of varying sizes and angles. The smaller the dot, the more white from the paper shows through effectively creating a lower percentage of color. The larger the dot (yup you guessed it), the higher the color percentage and the less white that shows through. When these dots are angled just right and printed over each other with their corresponding ink color, the effect is breath taking."

Alright.. now go back to sleep you crabs! <_<

Been a few weeks since I touched any of my artwork jobies. Due to doing a few jobs for other AA members and the Track and Field project.

So .. found some time during nightshift last night.. to do a bit more on the 10 YF. Damn this one is slow. Lotsa black shadow tone detail and halftones... YUK <_<
