starting a thread on this cabinet i got today

it is all complete minus the chassis and CP parts. Ive added a tv tube and will source out a chassis from joey shortly.

the overlay im going to remove and powdercoat as it is starting to come up on the edges. Was going to install overlay but that is nearly as much as the powercoater

will add new square start buttons and probably add zippies for now

also this cabinet bar a few op drill holes and some damage from someone trying to break in is near minty

this will be good as its a project cab worth keeping

31st March 2009, 07:15 PM
done a bit of work

stripped the old overlay and after a good tip from a member went and got some "chalkboard vinyl". $25 cut and installed

probably easy my self but the girl was hot as and she knew what she was doing with it

31st March 2009, 08:19 PM
nice cosy 4 player narf

31st March 2009, 08:23 PM

i had the choice of 2 or 4 player panel

thought i would stick with the 2 as a 2 player is a easy remake if 4 is too much

31st March 2009, 08:30 PM
great fit on the monitor, if a 2 player , sticking with the wide control panel?

31st March 2009, 08:43 PM
yeah might do

i was keen on a cab of gibos that had a dying 25 inch tube. just so happened that cab wasnt in the shed at the time and this one was there and too good to pass up.

Was just good timing the week before the neighbour chucked out a 25 inch TV so a quick test and rip out of the tube it fitted snug as a bug

im stocked as its a nice compact sized cab and bonus the tube is a rare find these days

31st March 2009, 09:12 PM
You where just to keen mate you would of bumped into the other cab when you came through the door:lol

31st March 2009, 09:13 PM
yeah i probably was had a wallet full for once

i didnt see it there funny enough. but i got the better of the 2. You showed me that one i was keen straight away as it was a 4 player

i suspect the other cab would of been to fat for my plans anyways

31st March 2009, 11:19 PM

added a power plug and plugged here in all powers up and takes credits. marquee light wasnt working so removed that and had a look and turns out the starter is completly shot so is the tube

ripped out all that and will replace it with a kmart $9 automotive fluro (alot easier to work with)

so far so good. im away next week so will have to wait for the chassis

1st April 2009, 12:19 AM
overlay with buttons cut and some dummy buttons in to get a look and feel for the panel

1st April 2009, 08:36 AM
hi narf just wondering where u purchased the " chalk board " vinyl from. Is it self adhesive?

1st April 2009, 06:11 PM
self adhesive yes con

i got it from my local sign shop. just ask for chalkboard vinyl they have rolls around 2m wide

i got the tip from prkljoker and its the stuff i reckon

2nd April 2009, 12:56 AM
undecided on colour schemes

atm having all red parts on the CP looks good. ive also got ordered 1 colour for each player so ive got 2 choices of colour scheme

2nd April 2009, 01:29 PM
Hey narf,

Can you take a few more pics of the Chalkboard Vinyl?

Wanted to see the texture/finish a bit better.

Cheers mate

2nd April 2009, 02:04 PM
can do mate

its pretty much a flat black finish with fine dimples

4th April 2009, 07:16 PM
well im stuck till parts arrive and wont be up to much till after easter (big camping trip)

so the list of things to do is

install last 2 sticks
order new chassis from joey
install all new buttons
order led controller from david_avd
add marquee light
replace marquee
make new harness's for the CP
find some konami kickharness's
buy a pcb

gotta love this hobby

19th April 2009, 01:33 AM
well time to kick this back on next week

buttons and last sticks have arrived. sounds like a few issues with the colours i ordered due to a message getting lost but ill deal with that (shit happens). ill collect them all monday and the fun begins

dam i missed seeing a arcade cab for the last 10 days

21st April 2009, 09:35 PM
progress at last. Had a problem with colours but all worked out in the end

p2 and p3 will be linked with a molex plug to seperate the extra harness between them

this way there is more room for 2 player only games

22nd April 2009, 12:12 PM
looking good Narf :023:

25th April 2009, 05:09 PM
dam the CP wiring is a mission on its own

just made up some harness for Player 1-4. This machine is going to be running a 1066 so P3+4 are connected via a jamma connector.

I had a box of old wiring odds and sods from old machines. Luckily had just the right molexed leads in there to make some to suit the ones in the machine. Now just need some spade terminals and the wiring begins. There is around 60 or more odd spade connections so for will order one of these to take the hardpart out of daisy chaining the commons at least (or at least 90% of them)

tube is being delivered to joey on tuesday and then i will have to collect it back if i can catch him

getting there slowly. Alot of $$ going into this cab but at the end of the day to me its worth it all

29th April 2009, 01:16 AM
tube and chassis are finished (thanks joey)

now time to get them and the gameboard soon

4th May 2009, 04:51 PM

4th May 2009, 11:21 PM
cheers that was it :)

7th May 2009, 08:04 AM
i just wired up the CP last nite

never again am i wiring up a 4 player cab :lol. Still need to connect wires to there proper switches but after around 40 wires (i cheated on the commons with a premade daisy chain) i was over it

taken me ages but its done neat and right. In the past been a bit slap dash but this time made it all good and proper

now time to order a marquee

23rd May 2009, 06:25 PM

big w.e for this beast

chassis, marquee and 2 new panels today and board all collected after paying for them a while ago

the sf2 panel will stock mcas for hardcore action
the 4 player panel is all built and ready
plus as a bonus from joey golden tee trackball panel

so this machine now features 3 panels all quick change :)

awaiting a button order to finish it off and start wiring up the 6 button panel then making a 4 player harness

its good to see this machine back to life

24th May 2009, 04:27 AM
woot golden tee for $10 US. this cab will get a good workout

27th May 2009, 06:44 PM
comming to a end at long last

now time for harness's for the trackball and 4 player panel and then its the end i think

comming a fan of chalkboard vinyl

this weeks picture mag also makes a great anti scratch mat too

edit screws do need a paint ive cleaned up with a wire brush but forgot the paint

27th May 2009, 11:19 PM
love the swappable cp's .....

Can you explain how the quick change on the cp's work .... whats holding them on the cabinet and what do you have to unscrew or otherwise to change.

27th May 2009, 11:37 PM
there is 8 bolts that go around the edge of the CP

p1+2 are molexed inside the control panel so all i need to do is disconnect these and then reconnect the other panels on. If you use matching molex plugs its a breeze

p3+4 are kick harness for most games so these will be on the CP and just run them back the game board that uses them

u can see the bolts on this pic that keep the panel in place

i hadnt punched the holes in the last pic when i took the photo

28th May 2009, 06:21 PM
is very neat. :)

28th May 2009, 06:45 PM
cheers nug

trying to be more professional with this cab

8th August 2009, 05:20 PM
gotta love the versatility of the lai uprights

5 mins later and its now one of my fav series of games :)

they were smart with there wiring just plug and play. This panel came of one of last w.e's pickups. just need to service a few micros and shes all good

14th August 2009, 08:47 PM

24th August 2009, 07:38 PM

24th August 2009, 07:45 PM

I was actually wondering if you wanted one, but sounds like you don't

24th August 2009, 07:47 PM

24th August 2009, 08:03 PM
ahh cheers mate

Need to rotate the Monitor to do that, and

yes some games can use a trackball in the 60 in 1

24th August 2009, 08:03 PM
ill have a think mate and let you know
