Hi,

I am building the mameroom wall mount jukebox http://www.mameroom.com/ProductDetail.asp?ID=JUKEBOXKIT

and I need help to choose some speakers. Obviously because it is wall mount space for speakers is a premium. I have heard car stereo speakers and amps wired to run off pc power supply work weel but my skills in doing that arent quite up to scratch so I would prefer normal pc speakers. I was htinking that maybe a set with wireless remote would be good so the vomlume could be controlled form across the room.

i found these on jaycar website http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=XC5183&keywords=active+speakers&form=KEYWORD

and these from logitech http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/4713&cl=au,en and obviosuly with these speakers dont have to worry about power as they are powered by the usb port so very easy to connect!

Do you think either of these would give good sound in a jukebox as obviosuly sound is of the utmost imprtance.

i am open to any and all recommendations.

Thanks

Sean

Speakers powered solely from the USB port are going to be limited in output power, so take that into consideration. If you want them to go "party loud" then they won't cut it I'd reckon.

Maybe check out some of the Altec Lancing 2.1 (240V) powered speakers? :unsure

someone on byoac suggested these http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Channel-Red-Stereo-Amplifier-AMP-Car-Van-Boat-500W_W0QQitemZ310124817395QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_A mplifiers?hash=item310124817395&_trksid=p4634.m351.l1262 or these http://cgi.ebay.com/ClassT-T-AMP-TA2024-Audio-Amplifier-Board-SMT-2X15-Watt_W0QQitemZ330316024777QQihZ014QQcategoryZ1504Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262
then hook them up to car stereo speakers. i don't know if they would be any good though. Im really at a loss here on what to do.

i just want somethign that sounds great and is easy to hook up and comes with a volume control or can hook up a volume control too

The first one is just plain fantasy with the power ratings. They say 500W output but then say it draws 5A @ 12V. (Only 60W) Even with 100% efficiency, that's still only 30W per channel, not 250W! I'd avoid that one.

The second one is more realistic. It seems to have real ratings.

We sell some car speakers (http://www.audiovisualdevices.com.au/viewprod.php?catid=&productid=APS693) that sound quite good, but the amplifier would have to be rated for 4 Ohm use.

The sound is also going to be dictated by the enclosure. (cabinet)

David,

Dont suppose you sell a decent map with those speakers that is already wired to 12v with a molex plug to plug into pc power supply and with a volume control attached? I'm really, really lost with all this speaker and amp choosing stuff!

No, but surely the local car audio shops would have something in the 20W per channel range for not too much money? It's not that hard to attach a plug and volume control.
