First up I would like to thank the Coconut Island guys for asking me to help on their project. Its certainly attracted plenty of attention in the pinball community and its great to see them having a crack at what is understandably a very difficult project.

This is the 3rd revision of this art.
Let me know what you guys think and if you think I should change anything, speak up!

The front still needs a tree or 2 as well.

I haven't done the head box yet but it will only be a Palm Tree with a Flare.

Holy shit Spacies, that is top notch work, even by your usual standards.

Artwork like that will really make CI blur the lines (at a glance) between a professional and home built pin.

You just added fuel to the fire of wanting to build my own pinball :D

PS: Agreed that the front panel needs a tree or two.

Ha

Just made some changes.
Cut the grass a bit:

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL2001/10876724/21453039/353953649.jpg

Changes to the front as well:

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL2001/10876724/21453039/353954659.jpg

It will be approx 5 times what you see on screen so the coconuts will be visible :p

I said it before.... and ill no doubt say it again...........

all of you guys involved in the project are F**king awesome, I'm in total AWE of you all.........

that art work is friggin' awesome.........

ill throw a thought in........ feel free to ignore it though, as you guys rock and i'm a mere novice.......... but a cracking open (in many segments, but in a controlled fashion) coconut flying airborne might look cool in there somewhere, maybe a silver bullet(ie: pinball) flying off in the oposite direction.....

just a thought......

You guys ****ing ROCK!!!!!!!.......... this is an amazingly inspiring project!!!! (my husband thanks you for adding further ideas into my already exploding head LOL)

Nah, the plastics were done long ago, and look ***sweet***! The cab art proposal fits in very well, but the plastics needed to be closer to the playfield artwork style for the proper effect. I've actually got them right in front of me now, doing the final fine sanding of the edges and polishing.

Spacies, we are over the moon with your efforts! Fantastic! Just on the phone with nug - decided we like some of the long grass a bit - maybe a compromise between versions one and two?

Thanks for letting me have a go!
I have made the grass longer, added sand, rocks, bugs, masks, huts on the background island, monkey, ants, dragonflies, fire, pots, flowers. I think that is about it.

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL2001/10876724/21453039/354057286.jpg

Just ****ing around really. I am a bit concerned that when we blow it up to full size it would have looked a bit bare. All of that stuff can be removed with one push of the the delete key. I think this gives it more of a deserted island look but speak up!

Nice touch spacies. Not to be picky but I reckon that sign should be a little further up the grass and leaning over a little bit. Its a bit too 'clean & straight' for an island?

Btw there's something about this artwork that goes really well with Joe & Mac (caveman ninja) too. Hmmm, volcanos.

First print!

Found about 20 mistakes so I have corrected them all now.
Here is the print tiled on A3 and taped together. Its a good idea to do this before the final decal printing because you can look over it a lot easier than on a monitor.

Thanks Claudio.
This isn't what I do for a day job but it is something I am trying to persue. I don't have any qualifications in design (self taught) so I doubt a business would hire me. I guess freelancing is the way to go until I build a portfolio but the idea of freelancing is much more appealing anyway.

I must admit I had the same thought about the cliche of photoshop flares, but it still looked good.

I'd be more concerned about seeing multiple suns from the same angle. I know its not meant to be part of one big picture, but having a sun on the side of the back box as well as the side of the cabinet looks a little strange.

I like the sun on the side just as it is, but I'd drop the sun altogether from the backbox side?

I must admit I had the same thought about the cliche of photoshop flares, but it still looked good.

I'd be more concerned about seeing multiple suns from the same angle. I know its not meant to be part of one big picture, but having a sun on the side of the back box as well as the side of the cabinet looks a little strange.

I like the sun on the side just as it is, but I'd drop the sun altogether from the backbox side?

Good point which I also thought of.
I will ditch the sun off the headbox altogether and move the rocket.

Nah mate. Its all good and I apreciate any ideas for changing things around. Keeps people involved :D

How about this sun and not the flare?

YES! Better sun than the flare, it goes nicely with the colours. Is it still going to be only on the cabinet side panel though?

Whats the significance of the rocket btw? Is there one on the PF?

Just a thought: Put a treasure chest somewhere called "Big Whoop". If nobody gets that, nevermind :D

Re the sun, IMO something between the most recent two would be good. The graphics have a caroonish theme to them and the sun should reflect that as well.

I will wait to see what the CI guys say. I think it looks ok and will ask about the one on the side art.

Nug asked for a rocket, so thats what I put in. Don't know if there is one in the game but I suspect there is :D

I like the new sun, a 'halo' around it wouldnt look too bad, but might be tricky. The whole 'lens flare' (ie you can see artifacts the whole way along the side) doesn't belong now you see them side by side.

I notice the higher contrast in the 'new' one too, nice.

Whats with that white line that is in front of the mountain in the old one, and behind the mountain in the new one? Is that just a flat cloud?

spacies
13th February 2009, 05:01 PM
Yeah, no flares now. I have made some outer glow around the sun but its hard to pick up.

Oops, I moved the clouds. They are back in front now :p

loose the bannana. It stands out and detracts.

Seriously mate, I (we) are REALLY nitpicking now, but only because we're scrutinising it deliberately.

I'm amazed by the work you've one and thik its better than a huge amount of the commercial pin artwork I've seen. Love it. These fine details should really be up to you and the CI team, not us :)

Mmmmm. I don't think the halo is going to work.

The banana has to stay. The monkey has that look on his face because he can't figure out how to get the banana out. I will leave it to Nug.
Thanks for the comments though boss :D

I agree.. The new sun looks like a sunflower and you have enough of them.. The old sun, whilst a 'flare' did look better IMO..

I like the flat cloud, its there and its not too busy.

Banana is fine with the monkey (Sorry DM..!)

Not too keen on the pink B of P (Lyre Bird - whatever)

Create something only those that know, know about.. Like with the grass draw it in such as way that a clump outlines the letters 'HTFU' or something... Make it so subtle that of course its not there but it really is.. You know what I mean..
