View Full Version : Rygar PCB Somtimes Sync

31st January 2009, 05:52 PM
Fault: Power up pcb and you would lose sync and then if you turn off quickly and back on would sync correctly

Repairs: Used thicker gauge wire to 5 volt

This pcb was getting me cranky for 3 hours just couldn’t track down this issue at all. I tried another PS on this pcb and same problem would happen if you turn it off for a while and back on. I tried the first ps in another cabinet and didnt have any issues with power so i thought its eather a IC failing or pcb just not getting enough amps.

Went through the pcb all video and snyc but nothing i could find was causing any issue. so i changed the 5+ to a thicker guage wire and fixed the pcb. Guess it wasnt enough amps to run pcb.

Hey Jason

Is it a original PCB or a bootleg?

Does it have like a small connector on the bottom right of the pcb near the ribbon cables?

not sure Stoog
its on its way from New Jersey at the moment
its wired via a tekhan harness
if you mean the connector top left of pic - I guess it does
does this mean its a bootleg?
looks like its the original according to these pics? http://pcbdb.net/?owner:1416

I emailed Tom Groger in Germany about my pcb as he has a rygar bootleg for sale,
and this is what he said

"This is a good japanese Bootleg of Rygar,

Yeah contrary to popular belief not all boots are bad.. Some are actually better than the originals.

I sent Tom another message requesting more information:

It's missing a Hybrid Custom chip, also there are a lot of other little hints that show the bootleg. Here is a picture of the original Thekan Board:

I note the "original" board has "Temco" on it between the ribbon cables and boots probably wouldn't have that on them (amongst other things)

Ahh ok thanks for the info mate :)

I thought rygar was made by Tecmo??????

yep, and the original (non bootleg) board has Temco marked on it between the ribbon cables

whereas mine doesn't have that on it
that might be one indicator that its a bootleg

I have an original Rygar, pretty sure Temco is printed on the pcb

If anyone ever gets a set of this pcb where you can change it from US to Japan i would be interested. There was a set where a dip switch you could change the language.

Was called a world set i think
