Just reading Gibos thread about parting out pinballs that 'may' be beyond restoration and I thought I would fire up a few pics of some machines that I have saved from the rubbish heap to show others no matter how bad they are, some can be saved.

Found. 6 old cocktails in an old Chicken Shed:

Now show them some love:

So there ya go.
Sure it takes some hard yacker but SAVE THEM if they can be saved.
I know pinballs are generally more expensive but if you can afford to buy it, then you can afford to restore it.

Don't forget this one too:

Hope that gives you guys some inspiration for those who hadn't seen those pics.

man, wish I could find a cocktail table like that...

Love the artwork on the space invaders, more the CP than anything else, that's bloody nice. Did you have to buy it or did you do it yourself?

omg... of course this is in NZ... so I spose storing such treasures in sheep sheds is common practice! over here we have a building called a warehouse! :p

Man, wish I could stumble apon a nice cocktail ghetto... :( though I am a tad choosy about which type.

Heh,

We have kicked the sheep out now and put old cabs in. They are worth more.

Yeah no use getting a cab if it isn't the right one for you. But could always resto and sell it.

I have a soft spot for the old Taitos.

This is one the was given to me for resto and it was in a very, very, very sad way.
The legs were very rusty and the base was badly dented etc. I had to make some new pieces up for the metal base because they were beyond repair.

Looks pretty tight now.
Still gotta finish a few small things though.

very nice... i'm not a big fan of those cabs personally, mainly cause I always found that CP hard to use. I much rather the ones you first posted. :)

either way mate you show yourself as a real quality restorer. the work you do is incredible.

I like the taito's alot, stop it!

You mustn't have any competition over there to stumble accross them like that.

Yeah they suck to play on but were a big part of my youth so I have a soft spot for them.
The other ones are much better to play on for sure.

There is competition. You just have to stand above them.

These restores are sexy!

How much does the leg chroming set you back? I've only had a quick check (rang the top three search results from yellow pages) and they all charge a metric arseload for it here. I ended up going with powder coating which is a lot cheaper, but nowhere near as sexy.

It depends on the way you look I reckon, lol.

Nah, the 1st time I had a set of those done it was $120nzd. The quality was shit.
I went to a different company this time and it was $220nzd but this guy is the shit. He does a lot of work for some of NZs top Hot Rod builders and the quality shows. Those legs were pitted with rust but they polished it all out before the plating. Amazing.

Now dont get me wrong here mate you have done a supurb job on those resto's but comparing generic cocktails to lets say a system 11 pinball with damaged ramps and plastics to me is chalk and cheese, the only way to bring this type of pin back to its former glory is if somebody parts out another one :D

Yeah I know what you mean but this is meant to be exactly what you say, they CAN be saved one way or another.

If you don't like the control panels on the taito cabinets then go to your local sheetmetal guy and get him to make up some panels the way you want them.

I posted these pics in another thread but this is what I came up with when I didn't have a clue what they were supposed to look like:

Anything can be saved, somehow...
Whether you keep it to use as a template to make replica components, or are able to restore the part somehow, it's all good.

MetalSkin

problem is I would rather keep the cab as close to orig as possible. so would rather a cab where I like the CP than change a cab's CP to a different style to what it originally was.

IMHO I'm not a big fan of making drastic changes to something that is original. but that's just me... :D

if it can be saved good if not sometimes best to put it to rest

this was my rescue. $5 wasnt working apperently. took it home turned it on speaker gave a horrible whine. quick wiggle on the neckboard which had come loose and full working machine

needed a new top and new cord but insides were smicko. my first love this little beastie. Now its tidied up and has 8 spare CPs which is handy as there a odd design
