Great list Amy. Just an idea...can we keep an open challenge to beat / update any future high scores so there's always something to challenge here. I'm still dirty on Maverick for his shit high score on Wardner, I mean we all know he can't play Wardner and yet there he is with the high score. Please let me set the record straight! :lol

Just one classic that is obviously missing that hasn't been played yet is arguably the greatest schmup of them all....R-Type.

I think a challenge to any score is valid if it plays along the rules of the MGL. That is that AMY can be bothered changing scores when they are submitted;)

Yeah Mr Do is one I wasted a lot of 20s on back in the day. There's a few others but I think that Time Pilot score is outta my league. Pengo and Moon Patrol I might be able to beat but I guess it's really for MGL scores. Hope we see Mr Do in MGL T8 soon :P

Especially in my first go in one of the MGL tournament rounds.

So with these games, do the scores only count in MGL tournaments? Or can I keep playing frogger and post up higher scores anytime?

Yeh mate you can post better scores for any of these records, as long as you adhere to the mgl rules that they were set in, ie follow the same dip settings.

I've mucked around with a couple of the dip switches in some of the games. Is there a reference guide around somewhere that lists what the default dip switches are for all Mame games?

Or is there a file that Mame uses to store the dip switch settings that I can delete so that it takes everything back to default? I have looked, but I can't see anything and I doubt that it stores them back in the original zip folder of the ROMs

A while back (years now I think) the precedent was set that that anyone can challenge these scores, which gives punters something to tilt their caps at, while MGL's aren't on. Given the amount of games and scores listed here, I think that it's a good thing. Having two sets of high scores in two different areas only would confuse things.

Edit: Spartan for the record - can you confirm the dip settings you played 10 yard fight at ?

If you delete the data in NVRAM directory it will go back to default. Each rom you played will have it's individual file in that directory.

To ease your confusion, there was already a 10 yard score of 75k existing on the list. So it was challenged and bested. It *wasn't* just a random game high score thrown up there :)

Bunp 'n Jump - New Record 1,427,972

Ran out of time and had to play stupid at the end, should have broken 1.5 million - but oh well. Didn't beat my previous score by much so I'm not gonna bother submitting this to TG. Nice to know that after a couple of months break I can still break my best score. Xmas period is going to include enough time to have a serious shot at first breaking 2,000,000 and then going after the Arcade high score.

I want to knock off the the arcade high score using Mame first, then I'll look at a dedicated cab. Got some competition though, Charlie D Wehner (currently 2nd in Mame) is back playing on an arcade machine, he's over 2,000,000 already :o

If I ever come across a Bump'n'Jump PCB will be sending it your way ( for cost of course ;)), I really want more Aussies getting dedicated high scores.

BTW does the TG scores with original PCB's mean you have to play with the same/original joysticks and buttons that came with the game :unsure

Cheers :D BnJ PCB's aren't that expensive really - couple of hundred bucks will get you one.

No idea about the TG rules, my understanding which could be wrong, is that you could use a home made set up as long as it's an original PCB inside it :unsure I'd really like to have a go on an original machine, I have a feeling that I won't convert over to the joystick as well as I play using a keyboard for some reason.

I think it would depend on the game, something like Donkey Kong they would expect it done on all original hardware, but lesser known games I think they would be less strict on it.

Yeah, DK is very strict these days for dedicate cab's. However I think they are a bit looser on requirements for other games. For example, the Aussie guy who got the Galaga high score last year didn't do it on an original cab, he just had the PCB.

here's a thought! convert it to a table, and add another column for the lowest score too!

This scoreboard AFAIK is just for games that have been played in the MGL's.

I was never a MK player, so never looked into what records are tracked by TwinGalaxies, maybe you could look into that :)

Don't think this scoreboard has been updated in a while, will try and get around to it when MGL 15 finishes in a weeks time.

I must admit to being a bit slack updating these records from about MGL14... I think Time Pilot in MGL14 was the last score I updated.

But yeah, these are just MGL records, but people can post better scores for anything they see listed here though, is how we approached it in the past. Gives punters some scores to tilt their hats at, while MGL isn't on. Just play at Mame default dips and you're sweet.

I did try updating it before MGL15 kicked off but for some reason I have troubles occasionally editing posts, go into edit, make changes, try to save and it just times out - gave up after a couple of attempts. Could be the time of night and to many people on AA causing a slow response or could just be my internet which drives me bonkers at times. I only noticed last week that the MARP tournament was running, otherwise I would have entered it. Seeing the three games that were played for qualifying I would have been the 2nd Aussie player to not qualify :lol

However as you can see above, we have a list of the winners for these early pioneering MGLs on the first page of this thread. I do not know the placegetters.

To recognise the winners of these MGLs, I have created the missing trophies for active players, and therefore below is DKong's complete virtual trophy set ...

I've always sucked at Defender. It's one of those games that I like a lot but never really got the hang of or put in the effort to get good at. Scored 36K in the 2010 Funspot tournament. That's about as good as I get. Might try for 50K next week.

For your viewing pleasure, the high scores list has been updated after MGL XX. MGL XX saw new high scores in every game played including obviously the 2 games that hadn't been played before, Jumping Jack and Kung-Fu Master.

I've also added the Galaga score by Barra from the other night of 5,359,250.

If you're waiting for the next MGL to kick off, why not check out the scores on page 1 and see if you can knock off any record that is listed. Just post a screen shot in this thread and play on the MAME default settings (unless a score states TG settings were used).

I've also added the 2nd and 3rd place getters for MGL's 8 to 20 also, unfortunately we can't get the 2nd and 3rd places for earlier tournaments.

On being the anniversary of the last keeping of the AA MGL Champions Memorial, the last 3 champions have been etched in time, forever in the tomb symbolising human triumph.
Twas said by many that the games would not last the test of eternity, however the twist is that man is mortal and the games and their scores will live on forever while man will perish and regenerate in cycles into the distant future.

Hey guys. I've been playing the arcades a bit lately (previously just addicted to pinball...), and noticed RMacauley has a Twingalaxies score up for Ghouls 'n' Ghosts which is one of my favourite games. So I've been on a bit of a mission to see if I could best it.

Well last night was the night! Smashed my previous best by 100,000 (and made it to the very last boss, second loop through, for the first time). Didn't clear the game though. I reckon I only needed to hit him 1 or 2 more times...

The issue here is that it's the World set for TG, and also for my score I've done. Can that be included here as a separate entry in this score board? Or do we have to stick to the US set (which is what the current high score here is on)?

This is just my take, so it's not set in stone. I've ran a few MGL's as have many others...... My take is that you could outside an MGL challenge a score, but you did need to play the original MGL settings.

It's all up in the air though. There has never been as far as I know a concrete set of rules.

My suggestion to Mar would be to play in the MGL, nominate this particular variation of the game and then set the score. Failing that, play the hell out of it and submit directly to Twin Galaxies and knock off the high score.

I think what you're referring to is the mgl high scores list (see first post in this thread) contains the high scores for all games played in mgl's. Quite a while back we threw that open for anyone to contest a score there. Great score on Ghouls and ghosts Mar !

Hi Camaro, OOO does update scores suitably, but, some people decide to wait till the last minute to submit apparently. I think that's what you mean.
Creech, these are scores from the last 2 MGL's (28 and 29) which have been completed). This is the all time high score for each game.
Last update was suggested by bigredbird after MGL27 and have been added.
Cheers
