Okay, this is something I've wanted to do for about 5 years now, ever since first finding out about how the PAL versions are cheap and nasty transfers that display wrong and run at the wrong speed!

I even bought all the things I'd need to do it a couple of years ago... but alas as far as I got was widening the cartridge slot.

You have to remember, I've had ZERO electronics experience. I'd never even used a soldering iron!

So yesterday I finally decided to give it a go. And by-crickey it WORKS! I can't believe it actually works!! I keep expecting it to die suddenly... Oh it's a thing of beauty now. I've mounted a switch that controls the lockout chip AND the display mode... I can even confirm that it works correctly (which is even more amazing) - The lockout chip is enabled in 50Htz mode, but disabled in 60Htz mode. I can even change from 50Htz to 60 while it's on (though I can't change the other way, though I didn't perform the mod so I could start in 60Htz and change back to 50 lol).

Oh well I better get back to playing SSF2 using my Tank Arcade controllers...

I remember the SNES fondly. I mail ordered an NTSC machine from Hong Kong because I had a friend who had family over there. It came coupled with the Wildcard copier.

By the way, I had some absolute favourite games on the SNES which Im still playing today on my arcade cabinet via emulator. If you have a couple of friends over, these were my fav (FYI :) ):

Super Tetris & Bombliss (2 players was bloody addictive -- played this to death!)
Super Puyo Puyo 1 & 2 (one of these had a mode for 2-3 computer apponents which was an absolute blast)
Top Gear 2

Cheers,

I have to agree! I saw this mod a few months ago and decided to do it also! It is great! Love playing *most* of the games fullscreen and full-speed! I say most because some games with extra chips like mario kart dont like to be increased :( However, mario just doesnt get any better, same with yoshi's island - its fantastic.

Enjoy your snes - mine will have a fond place in my heart forever.

Though the aspect ratio may not be.

I picked up a Japanese Super Famicom a few years back for $10 from a Toyworld store. Apparently someone had traded it in and the owner couldnt sell it on. This was in the days before eBay. The fool didnt realise he could have flogged it off for $100 to the right audience.

Anyways, so that solved my 60Hz problems on the cheap. :)

I owe you guys a photo of it, so here's a photo of my SNES, connected to one of my two TANK controllers, in front of hideous curtains:

The documents I consulted when doing the mod:

http://home.freeuk.net/markk/Consoles/SNES_Lockout.txt

I did it my own way though. See attachment for a visual schematic as well.
