wow that looks very slick.... im assuming though that you would need some up to date hardware... >512mb ram and a >2ghz p4???

its similar to another fe right??? ultrastyle or something????

side note...

i would love if someone would setup an FE like in the youtube vid... with all the preview videos, emulators setup, and roms and just mail it to me :)

Not sure what it's harware requirements are , I'm hoping it's not as high as that.

Yeah similar but superior to Ultastyle, HyperSpin contains all those animations across the screen.

Wouldn't that be good. :D

For those interested in this frontend, it is currrently in beta testing.

I think it will easily surpass all current frontends, here is a link to some previews: http://hyperspin-fe.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=38

The second video is awesome!

Check it out.

The graphics/themes etc

So the spinning selection won't be included? What will the front-end look like then? :unsure

as far as i know the spining is standard

RetroBorg

Yeah the selection wheel is standard and it looks like you'll be able to download any of the skins/themes that Bad Boy Bill and the others have created, I think he was worried another frontend (Khameleon) was just going to copy all his hard work so he threatened not to release his skin.

From what I've read it looks like you can have a standard skin for each emulator but also if you like you can download themes for individual games as well, like in this video:

YouTube - HyperSpin Arcade Frontend Theme Demo

As you can imagine this is a huge project with about 6000 games in MAME alone, so basically they are making themes for most of the more popular games ready for the first release and I'm sure after time users will start making their own themes for the games that don't already have them made and upload them to his site. I'm sure there will also be alternative themes for the ones currently done as well.

I guess this frontend and all it's associated skins/themes etc will consume quite a bit of hard drive space. It will also be interesting as to what system requirements will be needed to run HyperSpin.

We are currently quite spoilt with plenty of good frontends (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=76769.0) around at the moment and soon we will also have next generation frontends like HyperSpin (http://hyperspin-fe.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=21&Itemid=38), Razor (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=76769.0) and Khameleon (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=76881.0) to choose from. :D

I'm dying to try out HyperSpin out and make a few themes of my own.

Yup. The selection wheel is standard. The themes are pretty limited right now (only around 30 or 40) but themes will be created more rapidly once the theme creating app (HyperTheme) is finished. BBB is currently working on that now.

As far as system specs, it is definitely not as high as you would imagine. I am running it on a 2.4 ghz P4 but I know of people running it on significantly lower systems.

Themes are separate zipped folers that you extract into a certain directory. Each theme consists of up to 4 or 5 art files (if I recall correctly) and a video file. The themes are under 1 Meg each from initial tests and most of that is taken up by the flv (video) preview of the game. I think there will be a starter pack that will be included in the initial release but it will be very easy to download individual themes...I think you will even be able to do it through HyperTheme.

There are a ton of other cool features that will be included so stay tuned. BBB is very close to publicly releasing HS. He is doing some great work and we are all very excited to share it with everyone!

Cheers,
Billpa (guy who creates some artwork for HS)

You shouldn't have too much longer to wait Brad, apparently might be ready for public release in about 3 weeks time. :badgrin

The theme builder looks pretty cool to.

Heres the wheel editor config screen, it looks very user friendly, especially if you have been using MameWah like me for a while:

I am sooo using this when it's released. I have a cab re-design in progress and I tried Mala over the weekend and just don't like it. Mamewah stays until I get to play with this.

Brad

I'm a registered member too.

All my earlier pictures linked fine.

Anyway, I'm not going to worry too much about it, I have a feeling it will be released not before too long.

I'm just looking forward to having a bit of play and eventually making a theme or two.

What about you Brad, do you think you might make a theme yourself?

Brad
23rd July 2008, 07:58 AM
Honestly, I'd love to say yes but it will really depend on the theme editor because my PC art skills suck mightily LOL. If the theme editor makes it simple I'll definitely give it a whirl.
