I should think those specs should be good enough to run most emulated games, just going on the fact that I have and old Athlon 1333, 256MB, W98se, MX440se (64bit) 64MB computer that runs almost all of MAME32FX .72, at full speed, this is at 1024x786, 75% scanline effects and stuff.

Thats pretty much exactly what I'm running in my upright cabinet now, albeit with an old matrix 64mb card...

It runs just about everything including some of the more demanding games like MK series, golden tee etc... only the late 90's stuff like the 3d shooters etc don't run well.

If it weren't for the $20 postage (ie if they were in Sydney) I'd probably pick two up myself. Nice find.

im hoping to pick them up myself , they r local near me ... somewhere lol
Thinking of getting 2 - one for the jukebox (saving the Mrs' old computer) and to replace the comp in my current mame cab , its started to not turn on when the power button is hit . It was a freebee anyway :unsure

I just found a 1.8ghz in Sydney for $99... same as one of those with postage, but unfortunately its only 256mb and I couldnt be bothered ram matching.

Ah don't forget Chevy Chase in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation...never spend your bonus till its in the bank (then again, a cheap pc is alot less obligation than a massive family swimming bool...ahhh the Griswolds)

VP/pinmame run no problems on the old Athlon 1333 as well @1024x768, higher res requires a bit more.

Hi Dan, nice to meet you today. I have picked up the power supplies for the
Dell SX270's. I am just in the process of installing XP on them now. The
specs are as follows:

Dell SX270

Pentium 4 @ 2.4Ghz

512Mb ram

20Gb hard drive

CD rom

Windows XP Professional COA

The CD rom is hot swappable and is the same device as used in the C series
Latitude notebooks so they can be upgraded to DVD or Combo or DVD Burner.

The hard drive is an IDE 2.5" notebook drive

Here is the link to all the user guide .
http://support.ap.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opsx270/en/ug/index.htm

I'm going to list them at $149 plus $20 pack & post Australia wide but for
your members I will do them at $149 delivered Australia wide.

I will have them listed within the next couple of hours on ebay. I will send
you the link to the listing as soon as I have them up. I have 12 of them.

Cheers,

Wally

Wow cool, that may be an offer too good to refuse... why is there always one spec too low though :D

Damn 20gb hdd barely fit MAME roms :D

GEMINI
10th January 2008, 11:11 PM
With these pcs should i just use the windows 2000 or upgrade?
i have already tried to install mame 32 and it didn't want to know about it( i love xp because of plug and play)
are there any versions of mame that run better with win 2000??
ps not much good with playing with dos

IBM Netvista Pentium4 1.6Ghz 512Mb Ram 40Gb HDD DVD Player Windows 2000 Professional

I'm running Mame 1.06 on Win2000 without any problems?

I ran 98 because of DOS mode but after upgrading I had some crashing issues (its still not the most stable system) so I put 2000 on it (I didnt have XP)...

Next big project I'm putting XP on for the 'twin cursors' option for multiple light guns...

But for what you've got thats pretty much the same specs as mine and I'm running W2k

11th January 2008, 07:55 AM
is that tiny xp or normal one??

nigelicious
11th January 2008, 07:56 AM
Let me know how you go with it.

AdamC
11th January 2008, 01:11 PM
The normal version.
Thats what im running in the cab now , and I dont have any worries.
I was thinking of givng the tiny version a go tho , but ill have to have a look around and see what the difference is.

dmworking247
11th January 2008, 01:15 PM
The biggest gripe I have with any of these operating systems is the boot time... and that the startup/shutdown screens in 2000/XP are a pain in the ass to hide compared to '98.

I'm couldn't be assed to recompile a tinyXP thingy but if someones got a tinyXP build ideal for fast booting MAME cabs I'd like to see it.

AdamC
11th January 2008, 01:32 PM
Ill probably go win98 in my jukebox cab - its just a glorified mp3 player anyway. :D
Then i can change the boot screens with no probs. I cant seem to do that to my MAME cab on XP. (Tried a few diff versions of bootxp , etc) :unsure

*Insert standard response*

Depends on the game.

http://benchmark.mameworld.net/

Pick your favourite games from the list and see how they run on various hardware.
