Itchy
So I got an old gotlieb and the DMD had a large chunk of lines missing. I thought in might be able to fix the old plasma DMD.. but the feed in wires were broken close to the glass and even fiddling with them made the problem worse. Looked around for second hand dmds.. none available. Stumbled across pin2dmd. I know this is not be ( now ). And you can buy them pre assembled. Anyway researched and purchased the following Shield http://www.ebay.ca/itm/142145293513 Pwrsupply http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141415468277 Led panel http://s.aliexpress.com/BjemMBFF Controller and frame from uncle sash https://vpuniverse.com Pin2dmd license donation All up $207.33 Not to bad .. I know it's not original but catalyst looks better. Anyone else contemplating doing or done this Sent from my Pixel using Aussie Arcade mobile app
robm
Yep, cool bit of gear. I have one with straight green in cftbl and another in Spiderman. Saw a colordmd led version the other day, and it appears they use almost identical panels as pin2dmd users have. I started doing it and it's painful.. cool thing as it is you can change from blue palette to green to orange whenever you want. Itchy
Yeah the actual hardware can do 4096 Colors but my pinball driver only has 4 shades.. so it is what they call one palette.. you can recolor the pallets via a trigger frame to get full colour but you have to colour every frame. Sent from my Pixel using Aussie Arcade mobile app There's a bit of colour rom patching going on in the virtual pinball world... patched colour roms for around 6-10 different pinballs, quite a few new sterns, the Avengers one is really cool. whether these patched colour roms can be used/adapted for real pinballs ? no idea.....i might be able to find out though. you can find most of the patched roms / how to do it on vpuniverse. Yeah the pin2dmd plays through a series of hex frame addressing . Each frame has an different finger print. So the hardware I've got can store a map from The 4 shades on the real pinball and map it to real colour. But you have to record the animations and then repaint them manually.. I did one animation sequence of about 250 frames and 7 colours .. but the are a lot of frames for the whole game and a lot of pixels.. It takes a bit of patience. Jed
this might be of interest to people interested in using a pin2dmd and taking advantage of the full colour roms already made by the visual pinball community. I asked a question if the roms already done for VP can also be used in real pinballs? one of the developers for this feature in VPINMAME had this to say: " If it's a Stern, yes but you need to re-apply the comm patch with pinballbrowser using your pinball's serial number. You also need a serial cable hooked up so the pin2dmd can get the palette change commands.... That is part of the concept of pin2dmd to make the colorization community as big as possible." There aren't a huge amount done yet cause of how long it takes.... but games like Metallica, ACDC, Star Trek, Spiderman, Avengers, and some non-Sterns like TSPP, Streetfighter 2 all have been full colourised for Pin2dmd. Budgie
I am considering a Pin2Dmd for my Baywatch... has anyone experienced any dead dots/pixels? Love to hear how you go with this. I one day would like to change my Baywatch to a color DMD although at the moment the orange one is working fine so see no need to change yet.
