      I borrowed a cheap probe worked fine , if $300 is cheap that is
      SN74ALS138AN is available at element14 for $1.55, can swap or try piggyback method (I haven't tried this yet)
      You can also purchase chip and ram testers

      Levels aren't conform to the TTL or CMOS norm.

      That is where I have bought my als138an!
      I have once tried piggybacking some bitcounters but that didn't work. After I desolderered and replaced the bitcounters it did work.
