I just desoldered it and used isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. I did it after I removed the components and after I put the new ones back in. A lot of the mess was flux from the old solder and poor soldering . If it's really hard to remove I chipped the worst off with a jewelers screwdriver, very carefully.

I received the spare display board in the mail today. I now have a complete one.

From this.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161215/c68790d6eb86ceb6b820ed0c16c7c5cd.jpgto thishttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161215/ad3befde2903d78c61acaa97f65af1b8.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161215/f6e920527b92ddcce1cc0ccec6995d87.jpg

The last bits to be done are the two connectors on the power board.http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161215/7a862d87bca1c3b47749f8d5fdde5a7d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161215/5095d0ca2470627f98c12704b507aa1f.jpgI just need to order the parts.

The mechs appear to be in better condition than the one in the machine but the playfield is just as bad sadly. I think it's still worth the money to be able to assemble a working playfield with good mechs and while I've got one working I can look at restoring the other one.

Trying to pick the best bits from two crap playfields? 94bdf05d40d198125d4cba1ed36c1bda.jpg It's all part of the fun isn't it.

I should have everything I need except for the larger of the two plastics that sit over the magic mirror. It won't be mint but hopefully it'll work.

I've screwed the boards back in for now so they don't get damaged 1127be0f0a6a30745fcb47dc2c68a93e.jpg

It's time to take lots more photos before I go much further. I'm going to strip the top of the playfield in the cabinet, give it a clean and fit a sheet of mylar on it. Then I'll reassemble it with the best bits from both. After that I'm going to check the mechs underneath. I should have the connectors for the psu by then.

I don't know wether to be excited or nervous.😉 7651fffff7e24b5d6e9cfa623dded4c2.jpg It's getting close to powering it up, now these parts have arrived from Great Plains Electronics.

I've decided to strip the second playfield for parts to get the one in the cabinet operational and when the second one is free of parts I'll look at restoring it. Then swap all the better parts over to it. At least that way I can, hopefully keep the machine useable while the better playfield gets restored.

Does that make sense?

Cheers Trev
