New Astro city restoration.

Recommended Posts

Gday guys

I picked up a shagged Sega New Astro city shell to restore.

Its complete empty inside and the body is needs a overhaul of a respray.

I also started this thread on my FB group.

It will have a new life of being re-sprayed in a 2 tone color..Sky blue/White

Hopefully i should finish this within two weeks.

I have two option of putting a 31k crt monitor only or HD the cabinet with a 27" lcd monitor.

Installing either transparent joystick/button or LED the control panel.

Internal is going to be simple for a PC set up or a new age multiboard.

Usually i would send this to my panel beaters to re-spray but he decided to take a vacation to Europe.

I did a little experiment paint with Sky Blue.

Here some pictures of the shagged New Astro City.

Looks really good so far Leo!

Just one q. Why the two tone colour?

Always have done it before with shagged body shell

First time I've posted a restoration of a two tone on Aa.

They sell quick privately at a higher price but this one I will be offering it to Aa before put in on the market elsewhere.

All I'm waiting now is a new design for my control panel overlay from @MamePatrol plus new joy/button from overseas (ls32 joy with blue Metallica bats).

I'm interested in how an LCD would fit and what you do with the bezel to accommodate it.

As i would love an astro - just don't want to muck around with crts and their voltages!

If you do put an LCD in it would you be able to doc how it is mounted and what happens with the bezel?

I am very interested in an HD astro to play some SFV on.

Installing a 24" Hd LCD monitor

@spot

Cut a piece of raw Mdf 600x600mm

Cut a piece of Perspex prefer 3mm thick 600x600mm

drill 4 holes (12mm) on the Mdf board to line up on existing bolts which the monitor bracket is mounted.

Pending on what type of monitor you use will flush against the original bezel insert but you will have a 160 mm gap btw the top of bezel to monitor and 160 mm gab btw the bottom of the bezel to the monitor.

The raw Mdf can be resprayed with black paint .

Then you mount the Perspex on top.

Currently I'm getting the Mdf and Perspex cut ATM for my Dell 24" hd monitor.

Hopefully I'll have it ready to be installed soon .

Ps: I've been asked if this will be for sale in the nearby which will be at the asking price I'm after is btw 700-900 pending on the monitor installed.

Common problem with Speaker bezel which the plastic yellows for Astro New City.

Here some pictures of before and after.

Im at the final stage atm of giving its last clear coat to the cabinet.

Hopefully it will be ready by next weekend in working condition.

Waiting on parts from overseas for joystick and buttons plus the new decal for the control panel.
